Wright is writing a book.

And if Obama loses, he will have something to say.

Can you imagine what the Obama supporters gathering in Grant Park will do? They'll take to the streets. I'll love it.

I don't know. Everyone was claiming that the election was over last week because Obama was ahead by 10 points. I mentioned in MANY threads that the polls were unreliable. But of course, when they showed that, they were highly reliable. Now, the spread lessened, and they are useful again.

But the hypocracy is deafening as usual.

The media keeps playing up the theory that some white Republicans won't admit it to pollsters, but they will vote for Obama on election day.

It's sad that the first serious black candidate for President doesn't even bring up race or "black issues" yet the race seems to be coming down to racial issues. Plus he's mixed race and still being accused of being a racist. Can you imagine if he weren't mixed race what people would be saying? Like Mitch wondering what part people like Sharpton would play in Obama's administration. This is what he has to overcome.

I've been to a mass where information was passed out regarding a pending abortion proposition. They made sure that everyone knew the church's stance even though they didn't discuss it at all.

The Catholic Church is very pro-immigrant rights, and the Bishop here frequently has editorials in the newspaper and clashes with the Republican Governor. OTOH, the priest at my father's church - a wonderful man whom I respect very much - actually said in a sermon that it is a sin to vote for a pro-choice candidate.

Anything can be discussed in a church. It's only what church officials tell the flock that's restricted, and the only penalty is loss of tax exemption. That’s only your opinion. As long as no laws are being broken it’s up to preachers/churches to decide what types of discussions are appropriate for their sermons.

Besides there’s a historical reason why many black churches became political outlets. You see similar roles for churches in many countries where people are oppressed by their government. Wright's church is something different, but I'm just sayin'...

It's politics when he starts claming the "government invented Aids", or "God Damn America", or "America's chickens coming home to roost". Among many others.

Exactly, that's what I just said. Why does Ayers have to be "convicted"? His hatred is well documented.
It doesn't have to be illegal for it to be something you don't want connected to your president.

The question being addressed was whether U of I should have considered Ayers' past when appointing him a professor, not whether Obama should be considering Ayers' past now.

And yes, they should have.

Pre-September 2001, what evidence did U of I have that Ayers was anything more than an ex-radical who was sorry for his actions?

How was he any different from a guy who had been charged with some other violent crime but never convicted of anything?

Consider, for example, Martin Tankleff, who has just had his conviction for double murder reversed due to prosecutorial misconduct. Suppose he gets himself a Ph.D. now? Should U of I not consider him for a position because he was charged with a violent crime?
