I really don't get why this idiotic being would try banning these books. And they aren't even related.

I read only three of those : To kill a mocking bird, one flew over the cukoo's nest, and the canterbury tales.

I don't know why she would want to ban the canterbury tales. I can see why a fascist like herself would want to ban Mocking bird, and Cukoo's nest, though. Mocking bird was about a very excellent guy, who was very guy, who was a lawyer who protected a black guy while most of the town was against him. The black guy was accused of rape by a white trash type person. A fascist like Palin wouldn't want anyone to protect the wrongfully accused black guy.

Cukoo's nest is very deep. I actually didn't fully understand its meaning. I think that the main character, who was dubbed crazy, was actually not crazy, but rather, society was crazy. Maybe it follows the logic that in an insane world, those dubbed insane are sane.

Maybe some of those books are just fillers so that we don't pay attention to the main books she wants to ban?

But why ban Harry Potter? I never read it, but I think it is just a harmless, fictional book about a boy wizzard. Why ban those particular books by Stephen King?

I am actually not a very good reader though. I wish I would read more of those books. I tried reading Catch-22, but I couldn't, I kept re-reading the first pages. But even though I don't read as many as I should, I think it is wrong to ban ANY BOOKs.

It is a SHAME that she tried to do this
BULL that she fired someone
IGNORANCE that people support her
and ABUSE of her eleted office.

Just think of what she will try to ban as vice president...

If you ban the dictionary, how are you supposed to find out the meaning of the words she's using to ban the books she's banning...I get it...keep the populace dumb...

NOT a statement on her politics, but a blanket statment on book banning.

There's nothing rational about this except the desire to eliminate democracy.

Palin's idea about diversity is having an evagelical and a devout Catholic sit at the same table without killing each other. As far as she's concerned, there isn't anything else.

I think that this is actually a list compiled from news sources of what books have been banned somewhere in America. That particular dictionary was banned from schools in Carlsbad, NM, for containing definitions of unspecified rude words.

On the other hand, we can rest assured that the young people of Wasilia may read Casanova's autobiography before going to readings of Aristophanes' Thesmophoriazusae and Shakspere's Macbeth. And never mind that the Living Bible's banned -- there's always the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

"Faith Assemblies of God" (or as those of us who worked for them call them - FAGs) is one of the craziest evangelical groups in Uhmerica. They're warmongering types, preach racism and hatred and appeal greatly to rednecks. THEY'RE the ones who can't wait for Armageddon to come, and have been working VERY actively to stir up shit in the Middle East because they believe that Jesus isn't coming back until there's only the proverbial 144,000 Jews left. And oh yeah, Jerusalem belongs to THEM.

They're a VERY dangerous bunch, and a good part of the Reagan and Bush administrations were chock full of these clowns. Ashcroft was a major minister with the group. And while they publicly CLAIM that they're peaceful, when you get dragged into church with them, out comes the reality. 90% of all of those TV televangelists are with this group of folks. As I said, I worked for them from 1979 through 1981 building TV facilities for them, and was Assistant Chief Engineer for their station in Poughkeepsie ... if McCoocoo has taken in one of them, then he's already owned. :(

I would like to see a reliable source for this utter nonsense. Everything I found so far under search engines about the supposed book banning is the librarian said Palin came up to her and asked if certain books could be censured. No titles were ever mentioned The librarian refused and a few months later Palin came up to her and said she might be fired. Never gave a reason. This is all from the librarian. Undoubtedly you got these lies by loony leftists.
The funny thing is the left are the ones who want to restrict free speech with the fairness doctrine, and tries to shut up anyone who disagrees with them.

A lot less gullible than the people parroting it all over teh bl0g0sph3r3, with 294 inane comments each. I actually object to that more as it buries the original source.

Methinks Subwaysurf owes the future Vice President an apology.

Nah, it's news-worthy that she would say those things to a librarian, even if the story has been embellished by deliberate misquoting and wishful thinking.

Very true. At least I'm not in Cardiff -- I'd thought the Taff was looking rather high... Apparently it's been chaos...

But returning to our muttons, there's one final point of hilarity I hadn't noticed. The brouhaha about her trying to fire that librarian was in 1996. The first Harry Potter book wasn't published until 1997. I know that Sarah Palin is a remarkable lady, but banning books that hadn't been written yet would show an unimaginable degree of prescience.

This sounds suspiciously like the crap that AOLer's forward to everybody in their address book. Constantly.

A good friend of mine used to be an AOL user (he moved to Comcast two years ago and still plays the "Forward All" game, where you forward an e-mail to everybody listed in the incoming e-mail). He forwarded one that claimed that everybody's Cell Phone number would be given to spammers, which is patently false, as a Google Search will promptly point out.

These people need chloroform, liberally. :-)

Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

I read all of these in high school English classes (with the exception of L'Engle's work, which was in junior high).

Further, I would suggest that ANY negative comment or story about ANY political candidate be backed up by at least three (3) reputable news agencies before being perceived to be true.

And a note on sorting titles, it is traditional to sort titles starting with the words A or The using the second word (i.e. The Catcher in the Rye is sorted under C.)

It’s not the list that’s important, it’s that Palin wanted to foist her view of the world on the rest of the town.

Well, it's not like SUBWAYSURF is making this stuff up...merely posting accessible information.

Steve, I realize truth hurts the Neocons...but why hide behind lies?

Well, he is kind of gullible posting some internet lies without checking it out first. It is kind of funny that the Harry Potter books were written after the so-called librarian incident.

Looks like most books were published before Sarah's term

From wikipedia.
Since the release of the first novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, which was retitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the United States, the books have gained immense popularity, critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide.[2] The series has spawned films, video games and Potter-themed merchandise. As of June 2008, the book series has sold more than 400 million copies,[3] has been translated into 67 languages[4] and the last four books have consecutively set records as the fastest-selling books in history.[5][6] The seventh and last book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released on July 21, 2007.[7] Publishers announced a record-breaking 12 million copies for the first print run in the United States alone.[8]

I mean that whoever was responsible for the US distribution is stupid, not that Americans are stupid.
