Russia invades Georgia

Russian troops are threatening to cut Georgia in half. Well, Train Dude, do we come riding to the rescue? Should F-18s be buzzing the Russian formations?

This looks like a matter for the Russians and Georgians to settle themselves. The United States is not a military concern of either side.

Agreed...but when a big enough person jumps into a swimming pool, everyone gets splashed...

The bottom line is that every man is related to another, and everything is OUR concern to a certain degree. Best not to turn our backs, but that doesn't mean we should raise our penises.

What Americans really think about this war:
There aren't any Muslims involved, so we don't care.

America's sick obsession with Islam - oh no, they're going to Conquer the World and haul us off to the ovens - has caused us to ignore the rest of the world.

God forbid one of our transport planes currently flying Russia's enemies back home to fight Russia gets shot down by Russians. Then America will wake up real fast and damn the Rooskies like we used to do during the Cold war.

Back then, the Reds had 9,000 missiles aimed at me, so I was quite ready to hurl invective at them, because it directly affected my future...

The Russians will likely avoid shooting directly at UStransport planes.

Once the troops are driving away from the airport, though...

I'm not in TD's camp either. Iraq was a mistake, but that doesn't mean pulling out wouldn't be a bigger one.

I don't believe we should be policing the world. Goldwater/Eisenhower suits my view more than Cheney.

At the same time however, not everything is "Amerikkka"'s fault. Shit happened before we were created and shit will happen in the future. Peace activists only stand up to those who they don't think will shoot back. I dare you to go to Red Square and say something "contriversal".

That's what's so infuriating. They started a war based on fake data, then they ran it on the cheap because they wanted to preserve their precious tax cut, and now we're stuck there for years because if we walk out now we'll have a million dead Iraqis (from the ensuing civil war) on our consciences.

"At the same time however, not everything is "Amerikkka"'s fault. "

We're the top dog, so it goes with the job description.

Honestly, we needed to focus more on Afghanistan. Treat Afghanistan like we did Iwo Jima in WWII. Put 750,000 troops into Afghasnistan after 9/11 happened, march them up into the mountains where the Taliban are, and blow up the Taliban dog-holes one at a time with flamethrowers and explosives. The result would be that 25,000 US service members would probably die or get maimed within the first two-three months, but the Taliban would be exterminated and Bin Laden would be dead. Then afterwards, we could figure out how to reconstitute a government there.

But Bush and the GOP are too wimpy to go for that, and all of us have gotten used to fighting wars with few casualties.

They could probably tolerate the casualties. Besides, the casualties would probably be relatively light. The surge in Iraq has shown there's safety in greater numebrs.

What they can't tolerate are the TAXES that would be required to finance it.

Ironically, the total cost would probably be less, because the fighting wouyld have been over a lot sooner.

He fell asleep during the class where the professor said that while tax cuts increase economic activity, the taxes on the increased economic activity only partially make up for the reduction in the overall level of taxes.

No it wasn't, actually. But the PNAC's zeal to export democracy hobbled the real good that could have been done, and being all friendly with Iran behind the scenes (instead of using Iraq and Afghanistan as staging grounds to attack Iran) made everyone involved look like fools.
