Son of Africa or ugly American?

Consider a recent column out of Uganda, where, as in most of Africa, abortion is prohibited by law. "The Democrats whom Obama wants to take to the White House are known for killing unborn babies," columnist Owen Kibenge declared. Even worse, Kibenge continued, Obama supports civil unions and adoption rights for homosexual couples. "I am certain that the majority of Ugandans would not subscribe to this, even if it meant not voting for a black man," Kibenge added. He might be right. And as Obama well knows, it's not just Africans who are conservative on these issues; African Americans are, too. That's why 30 percent of black voters in the so-called Bible Belt of northern Florida voted for George W. Bush in the 2004 elections, giving Bush a clear margin of victory in the state that nearly cost him the presidency four years earlier. And that's why black pro-lifers recently staged a protest outside of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Washington, where they condemned Obama's stand on abortion.

But that won't be enough to satisfy some conservatives in the African-American community, where, as Obama has admitted, "homophobic attitudes" run deep. And it certainly won't win Obama much favor here in Africa, once more people find out about his position on gay rights.

Remember, in most African countries, all homosexual activity is illegal. In Kenya, the birthplace of Obama's father, gay sex is punishable by five to 14 years in jail. It carries a penalty of up to 10 years' imprisonment in Zimbabwe, where President Robert Mugabe has charged that "gay gangsters" from the West are conspiring against his regime. For the record, Mugabe says that homosexuality is a "white disease."

That's also what you hear in Ghana, which banned a proposed conference of gays and lesbians in 2006. As one government spokesman explained, homosexuality "violently offends the culture, morality, and heritage of the entire people of Ghana."

Never mind that same-sex love has a long history throughout Africa, or that Ghana has a small but brave gay-rights movement. Ghanaians insist that homosexuality is a depraved import from the West, especially from America.

"America is a sick society today because of overindulgence in freedom and liberty," a local columnist wrote last year, denouncing the gay-rights campaign. "Perhaps this is one cultural change that Africa is refusing to accept."

Soon, perhaps, more Africans might also refuse to accept Barack Obama
...
there's a whole story in the link. Expect his position to completely reverse or become ambiguous by the end of the week.

Well, that's possible. But they don't vote in US elections, either.

Heh. MERE technicality! :)

Personally, I'm getting a REAL kick out of all this "swift-boating" by OFFSHORE interests. What impresses ME though is the reaction to Obama from OTHER nations around the world. Prior, they were just singing "Ding Dong the Witch is dead" and as Obama has bubbled to worldwide notice, there's actually people talking about making deals lately - most interesting of all (as in "reading tea leaves") we're seeing many nations in the Middle East suddenly posturing to be "we're going to look at change and see what can be done." Ain't seen any of THAT since Clinton ... this is getting interesting indeed ...

The most conservative wing of the American Episcopal church ALSO turns to Africa for guidance and leadership on "hot button" issues for which Africans are notoriously un-open-minded.

On all other issues, however, and among most other people worldwide, Africa is not exactly where we look for models of statesmanship and sound government policy..

The original post here is an example of the desperation of the anti-Obama forces to find evidence anywhere-- Uganda???-- to derail Barack's inevitable road to the White House.

Most carribean or African stories about Obama, and I've seen a few opt-ed's, support him because he's "black", or has an African Father.

Speaking of opened mindedness and conservative values, doesn't Obama belong to his cousins tribe who wanted Sharia and "rioted" when he lost?

At any rate, I don't know what change you're[subchat, people, or them signs] talking about. The Dubya/Condi team followed the Saudi's more than any other presidency. Even if the Clintons got their libarary paid for by them. The same people who voted for Dubya in 2000(prior to their deportation I assume for some of their leaders), are backing Barry in '08. the difference? I see none.

You can't judge a candidate by his or her supporters assuming he or she makes a reasonable effort to disavow the crazies. Clinton, Obama, and McCain have all done that.

so if R Paul doesn't disavow his, then I can judge him?

What if you meet your supporters, or your supporters are your backers, on your campaign team as advisors, or your childhood friends?

That's right, I can't use anyones mentors, advisors, or their own quotes or actions to judge a person. Just their race, and it's time for a change.

Yea, it's very desperate. That along with the other 700 articles, the quotes in his books, or secret recordings of him(bibles and guns) or his pastors ramblings, or his criminal associations, or his kickback or monatery scandals(resulting in jail time and resignations), flip-floppings, poor ideas, history, or even thoughts are all of non-importance.
The other side isn't desperate, death threats to radio personalities and all.

The quotes from his books alone are going to be enough to hurt him. By November, we'll all be able recite some of his better quotes, like the one about the world in need and white man's greed. Seriously.

But the media is so in love with the Obama's, you just don't know what the public will be allowed to hear.

at home and abroad.

The plans by the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., a longtime supporter of abortions throughout pregnancy, to launch a major "Joshua Generation Project" to reach out to young Christian evangelicals and Catholics may have run into a glitch.

It seems the term "Generation Joshua" already is trademarked by the Home School Legal Defense Association, the world's premier advocacy organization for homeschooling parents and students.

The Obama campaign project first was reported by David Brody on CBN News, who said the campaign would launch sometime in June.

But look at the bright side, bro.

When Pres. Obama assumes office, you (and others) will have an ENDLESS supply of topics to rehash overandoverandover here. What WAS the meaning of that terrorist handshake? What ELSE did one of Obama's former clergy say? What ELSE was said in that Uganda(!) newspaper? What OTHER insights did Pat Robertson and his investigators uncover on the Christian (?) Broadcasting Network? Who WAS that person having coffee with Michelle? A militant? A commie? or, worse, a European?

Why, there will be no end to the enjoyment!!

One idiot says it was a terrorist handshake, and now the Obama's will cling to that "victimhood" status for sympathy until the election. "Former" clergy? Try again. That's Obama's church. That's who he is. No argument there. Uganda? The newspaper is Israeli.

None of this is why I'm not voting for Obama. I'll stick to national security and taxes as my reasons for liking McCain more.

"Taxes" is why you couldn't PAY me to vote for McCain. Four more years of putting everything (including "100" more years in Iraq) on a Chinese-owned credit card? I don't think so, bro.

National security? The guy who masterminded 9/11 (no he isn't an Iraqi! he's Saudi!!) is still free and, trillions of dollars and thousands of dead and injured later, is laughing his head off at us.

We need a new approach and one that's based on the ev-i-dence -- not hyped up, trumped up garbage which is what we have now.
