The Jews fought for the little piece of land and the UN (which was actually useful in those days) just fairly partitioned the land so the Jews had part and the Palestinians had part. There was never, EVER a country called Palestine. And when Israel "gives back" the golan, although Damascus is in it's bibilical borders afaik, Syria will give back it's portion of Lebanon and lay off, and then Turkey will also follow suit and give back it's porition of occupied lands. And then from that, the Syrians will give the Kurds citizenship and give them an eduction and not arrest them for speaking their own language or identitifying with themselves and other human rights. In turn they will secure the Iraqi border like the Lebanon side. You can talk to them if you feel weak and want to come down the dangerous bully neighbor while you're about to do something(like take care of a Korean weapons plant near the border). Otherwise the current state seems like a win-win. Unless it's true and Syria doesn't want to talk anymore, because they like Obama's views better and they'd rather wait a few months. That gives the purpose away imo. And Iran, o/t, has been compromised and bribed to it's limits. I'd call that a compromise. Doesn't seem to be working. I thought we have been talking to them. |

The big question is, what would you talk about, and with who(m)?You discuss the interests of the United States. You make sure there is an understanding of what those interests are. Everyone assumes that our enemies know exactly what we want from them and that's true in the big picture, but not always in the details. Plus even attempting to start a dialog makes you the good guy. Should things go downhill we'd get more support from the rest of the world because of that. If we had attempted to negotiate with Hussein we would have much more support from the rest of the world when we ultimately went to war. |
