Maybe....Obama |
|
Posted by orange blossom special on Sun Aug 5 10:54:15 2007 This article turned me around. Time for some airstrikes in the country that has a defense minister that promotes killing yourself and others. Push that Red Mosque to the sea!And I'm tired of them protesting and bossing the world around. Observer Democratic US presidential hopeful Barack Obama was criticised by Pakistani officials as 'irresponsible' for saying in a policy speech last week that, if elected, he might order unilateral military strikes in the country against al-Qaeda. Following the Pakistani officials' comments, hundreds chanted anti-US slogans and burnt a US flag. Bush administration officials had already angered Pakistanis last week by saying they would consider such strikes if intelligence warranted them. In Miran Shah, a major town in the troubled region bordering Afghanistan, about 1,000 tribespeople condemned recent Pakistani military operations in the area and vowed to repel any US attack. 'We are able to defend ourselves. We will teach a lesson to America if it attacks us,' a local cleric, Maulvi Mohammed Roman, told the rally. Elsewhere in the country, a suicide attacker killed nine people after detonating a car bomb at a busy bus station in an area bordering Afghanistan. The attack wounded 35 others, officials said. Army helicopter gunships and troops repelled a guerrilla raid on a military checkpoint earlier last week, killing at least 15 Islamists, the military said. ------------ I find it disturbing that there are people who think they can defeat the US military. All these woodsy folks who pack a lot of guns for just in case the US gov't turns fascists, I don't get how they'd protect themselves either. What fantasies they have. |

I find it disturbing that there are people who think they can defeat the US military. All these woodsy folks who pack a lot of guns for just in case the US gov't turns fascists, I don't get how they'd protect themselves either. What fantasies they have. That's because your definition of defeat isn't the same as theirs. The North Vietnamese and Viet Cong never defeated the US military in a conventional sense. Yet they achieved their goal of controlling all of Vietnam. The goons in Iraq, both Sunni and Shiite, cannot defeat the US military in the conventional sense. But they can make life so miserable for the US military that the US government, with the overwhelming backing of its citizens, deicdes to withdraw and let the goons fight it out among themselves, killing huge numbers of Iraqi civilians (but fewer Americans) in the process. Similarly, the folks in NW Pakistan have a fairly good reason to believe that they could outlast the US's determination to have an effect in the area. I'm not saying they'd be right, and they'd certainly suffer massive casualties, but there's no guarantee that the outcome of US strikes in the region would be totally favorable to US interests and totally unfavorable to the interests of the military factions residing there. |

That's true, and their definition of war is different than mine.My definition is shock and awe, and razing fallujah. Not driving around in Chevy Tahoes and Hummers getting IED'd while business as usual is going on around you! |

Then they wouldn't have rallys about crushing, or destroying, or embarrassing the army in terms of firepower and such.Instead they'd say things like just chasing America out. I think their words and context sounds bigger than just chasing you away. Threaten them anywhere, like this Pakistan one. Instead of thinking they'll get the shit bombed out of them, and nothing left, they act like a few IED's and homocide bombers will keep America away. Then get emboldened the way they do. But it makes sense, being they can't figure out what a holocaust actually is, or any of the other bullshit they pull daily. |

At first I thought Obama was an intelligent and innovative candidate that would get the US back on the right track...then, I heard his speech. He is nothing but a charismatic guy with all style and no substance. Despite his Ivy League education he is clueless. Even Hillary would be a better candidate. |

I'm bookmarking this thread, because I want to give a specific example next time it comes across.Like when they say they're going to "break out backs", "punch out our teeth", or how our "steets will run with blood", and of course how we're "a paper tiger". |
