On Thursday I'm supposed to be having my third and hopefully final surgery to attempt to remove my tumor.

I'll be off-line from Wednesday through mid-April...

Hopefully all goes well with no complications.

Ouch! I thought this was all in the past—at least that was the impression that your mom gave on the web site she put up with news last time you were in hospital.

All the very best with this. What does this mean for Drexel?

I received a call this morning from a friend of Dante's family saying that he died during surgery.

I was told over the phone that the funeral will take place either Tuesday or Wednesday in Brooklyn. I'm likely going to find out sometime this weekend.

I guess take a moment of your time to remember him in any way you see fit. I know I'm going to miss him, and the random hilarity that he always brought with him, a lot.

And no, this is a not a joke by any means. I was just as shocked when I was told of this news at around 1145 this morning.

im sorry to have to use dante's handle to post this but i dont have one here and i couldnt figure out how to register in order to post but in response to what brian just posted:

I know that over the years, my son Dante has been a fixture on this board and at many gatherings that have occurred as a result of his love of trains. I unfortunately do not have contact information for most of you and so am obliged to post this here. I am very sorry to have to report that dante passed away yesterday afternoon, during his surgery. Apparently his blood pressure dropped drastically and his heart just stopped. Despite the valiant efforts of his surgical team to revive him, he passed away. There are at this point no final arrangements but as soon as I have those I will email them to whomever wishes to have them and requests them. I will not post them here as I already feel horrid enough having to post this message. My email address for those who wish it is: digitalmuse66@yahoo.com.

And to those of you who were his friends and showed him kindness I thank you most sincerely from the bottom of my heart.

Mine too. David Gerber called me with the news. He told me to sit down and take a deep breath. I did. I am so shocked.

I knew Dante as a friend, a warrior and a good man. I expressed my concern many times as to his blood pressure problems and was hoping for a quick resolve. This untimely end hits me hard. When you mention brain tumor, as you guys know, my wife lost her life that way. I guess they were trying to remove the tumor when his blood pressure failed.

May God's grace keep you strong.

And a wonderful mother, at that.

She was there at the start of the Ultimate Ride in 2003 and stayed around with us
until our ride actually began.

The closeness between mother and son was very much evident and inspiring.

Ok-- I just sat here 3 minutes blankly trying to compose another line...

That's Dante on the left waiting as the train approaches from the portal (on 3/20/05)...

Lord be with our dear friend and keep your hand and spirit upon his family in this time
of difficulty... Know Lord, that he was a good man, a caring spirit, and a wonderful
dedicated son and friend to those whom knew him... We Pray Lord you will
watch over him and watch over us these hours of sadness and longing.

To Dante A. God Bless & you'll be missed eternally, brother man.
