The government needs to do something about television |
|
|
Posted by Peter Rosa on Thu Sep 17 17:30:44 2026 With so many viewers watching streaming, which has become the platform for almost all quality, talked-about programming, broadcast and free cable channels have been reduced to scrambling for table scraps. Idiotic Doofus Dad sitcoms, racist cop shows, fake “reality” shows, glurge like that, all supported by ads for prescription drugs, guaranteed-acceptance life insurance , dental implants and incontinence products.Because the free market has failed, it’s time for the government to step in and *require* broadcasters to offer better programming. |

If you don't like something on TV, change the channel or watch a DVD. The free market is alive and well. Broadcast TV still makes $$$. Govt has more important stuff to deal with than dictating what people watch on TV. The govt has no business getting involved with what they think is "better " programming for the masses in the USA. Your idea is how they do business in North Korea or China.. |

Television was dumbed down because they realize that the average American is an idiot, which means that half the country is dumber than that.If over the air tv were better I wouldn't have to watch streaming but like most people I stopped watching because the shows that I pay for are much better. Plus you can stream a lot for free. You just have to watch the commercials. |

MeTV is still a real channel. Comet was great, but they've done that binge block garbage everyone else is doing. Everytime I rent a hotel, I check out what cable has become. It's sad and pitiful.A few of us has discovered youtube premium is worth it. THey seem to have a better movie selection than most too. Last alternative, get something that comes with a streaming service included. Wal-Mart plus for example gives you a choice. I'm stuck with peacock, not bad. |

I watch that quite a bit.And I still have cable because I use it for Internet. And Spectrum gives me free Peacock, Paramount+, AMC, and FoxOne. Maybe some others. Some have commercials but I pay a few bucks extra to not have them. They also give me discounts (about half price) for HBO, Disney+/Hulu, and some others. |
