235 E 42nd St at risk of collapse

Posted by AlM on Tue Jul 7 13:52:34 2026

Consult your favorite news source.

It's a conversion from office to residential. But they were adding 11 floors on top as well - maybe that was a bit too much.

Evidently the buildings main structural pillars are starting to bend.

I was about to call it yet another symbol of NY economic decline but Pfizer is still here, in Hudson Yards

It'll be ok. They can put the city owned grocery on the first floor.

No, it's just architectural decline. As in someone declined to check the structural loading for a rooftop swimming pool on a building never meant to house one.

I hope they stabilize it and then tear it down so something else can take its place….and accommodate the weight of a rooftop pool. I wouldn’t want to go near that building ever again.

Unfortunately, it may put a damper on a very healthy trend of renovating older office buildings into luxury residential buildings.

Please sho some respect. Bingy just disproved the law of gravity. Its been proven that the more she weighs, the easier it is to pick her up.

Not necessarily. One exception, anomaly whatever dosen't mean a slowdown of a popular and profitable trend.
