World Cup corporate branding of stadiums

Posted by LuchAAA on Mon Jun 29 14:31:27 2026

Has anyone noticed that during the World Cup games, the commentators and graphics only say what city the game is from?

In no case do they mention the name of the stadium by it's corporate branded name. Just "Houston Stadium", or "Los Angeles Stadium" or whatever. You know what I mean.

The old men who frequented horse racing at the track are dead now.

A similar group of old Italian men played bocci ball.

I looked that up. It's a FIFA thing.

In case you meant to reply to the Aqueduct thread, allow me to tie them together.

Sofi aka "Los Angeles Stadium" was built on the site of the former glamour spot of Hollywood Park Racetrack. It was operating as a horse racetrack right up until it was bought and closed by the owner of the Rams. It will come as no surprise that all that is left is...a casino.

Interesting.

I guess the stadiums had to go along with the deals. Sponsors can't be happy.
