David Clayton Thomas

Posted by Catfish 44 on Thu Jun 25 22:27:58 2026

Died in Toronto yesterday at age 84. Not a big Blood Sweat & Tears fan, especially with him in the lead but he did perform at Woodstock. At the expense of The Chicago Transit Authority.
Anyway RIP to him

Damn. May He Rest In Peace. That BS&T second album was one of the greatest R&R albums of all time IMO. That drum solo on "Blues Part II" is phenomenal. They were able to pluck 3 million selling singles of that album.

Was just listening to him yesterday with BST; very much in heavy rotation on easy-listening radio stations. He wasn't their first lead singer, but they hit big with him. RIP

I wish, for whatever that's worth, the Chicago Transit Authority played the original Woodstock. It irks me that the 50th Anniversary Festival never even got off the ground due to, if memory serves which it often does not as any number of you people continue to point out, gross incompetence on the part of the organizers. Anyway, rest in peace Walter and David.

Just found out recently that the BS&T version of that tune was a cover, originally done by Brenda Holloway. IIRC her version only charted at #40 on the R&B charts

CTA didn’t play the Woodstock concert James William Guercio put BS& T in instead of them. CTA was not happy JWC because of that slight but it didn’t wind up mattering.
Very much agree RIP WalterP and DCT
