Sarasota, Fl. The grass is greener on the other side.

Posted by LuchAAA on Tue May 12 00:18:11 2026

Sarasota, Florida has some nice beaches. The entire Gulf shore has some great beaches.

Most Americans would not think of taking a vacation there. Most, especially women, like to travel abroad now.

Sarasota isn't exotic enough. Not good enough.

However, a lot of foreigners do vacation in Sarasota. Especially British and German. Yes. They travel all the way to the USA for Sarasota beach.

There are residents of major cities like Orlando and Tampa who have never even gone swimming in the Gulf.

Having been to just about every beach between Dunedin and Siesta Key, you'll get no arguments from me about how nice these beaches are. Once you get used to the 8-month summers, it's really not bad living here.

"Once you get used to the 8-month summers"

It gets old after a few hundred months though.

Our Ft Myers layover is the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point located by the water on the edge of Bonita Springs near Naples. I enjoy walking the boardwalk through the mangroves that takes you to the marina where a boat will take you out to Big Hickory Island, a private island for guests such as myself, an alleged male air hostess of color who happens to present as white. Anyway, that place is nature at its finest, just beautiful. There is even an educational building that describes the ecosystem of that part of the Gulf coast.

I just think of the platform at Continental Ave. from June until the end of September, and say to myself that I could still be dealing with that.
Then it doesn't seem so bad.
