British Columbia to go on permanent daylight time

Posted by AlM on Sun Mar 8 19:33:11 2026

Seems a bit extreme.

On 12/21/2026, sunrise in Prince Rupert, BC will be at 10:00 AM and sunset at 5:18 PM.

Announcement

Sunrise and sunset

If they are going to remain in one zone all year, it ought to be Pacific Standard Time. The Vancouver area (which is where most people in BC live) is actually 3 degrees west of the theoretical time zone center line of 120 degrees west longitude. And Victoria (the second most populated area) is even farther west.

Having children go to school in darkness sounds like a really bad idea.

I used to favor this, but I've since done a complete 180 on it.

Basically daylight saving is just forcing everyone to become an early riser. If you want to be an early riser, do it yourself and don't bother the rest of us.

I do not care if we go on daylight savings time or on standard time. I just beliece that the need for changing twice yearly has long since passed. it's time to decide and stick to one or the other.

I agree with this but I prefer year-round standard.

That far north there just isn't enough light. The kids will go to school in darkness even if they use standard time.

But sunrise at 10 AM is just crazily skewed.

I still don't understand why there is never a discussion of moving some of the time zone boundaries. There is nothing sacred about the current boundaries.

Many of the big disadvantages of NOT changing the clocks twice a year can be remediated by moving some of the most egregious boundaries.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't most boundaries follow state boarders to keep states in the same time zone when possible.
Emphasis on when possible, there are a load of exceptions.

TIME CHANGE?

In my home one of my wall clocks automatically changes, by a signal from The Smithsonian in Wash D.C. and as do the P.C.'s. on the internet.

I still have to adjust my old alarm clock which I do NOT use to get up'

I change my Microwave and electric stove.

With the coming reliance on A I, if I were King, I would have the time change go into effect during LENTs last four weeks by 15 minutes a week so as to lessen to shock to everyone's internal clock.

This map shows which states are in the "wrong" time zone.

And that's under standard time. Under daylight time, the yellow areas are way out kilter.

"Under the Canadian Constitution, laws related to timekeeping are a provincial and territorial matter.[2"

What a dump. They don't even have an overbearing DC style government to dictate the time to them!
