Remember the McDonald's recall?

Tainted quarter pounders.

It wasn't the meat that was bad. It was the onions.

But we're brainwashed into believing it's always the meat, but once again it was plant-based food not meat.

Huh?

Maybe you've been brainwashed.

The news has been full of stories of contaminated vegetables resulting from bad farm sanitation for decades.

About a year ago there was a major food poisoning outbreak at a Suffolk sushi joint that was not caused by the fish, but by the rice. It turns out that bacteria can grow quickly in unrefrigerated cooked rice.

Species names do not have a hyphen, #37. The E in E. coli is short for Escherichia.

Even small farms use feed. The feed contains ingredients to make yolks more orange.

Some let hens roam around but most are in the barn.

I keep looking. And looking.

Armour is still the main brand and usually the only brand sold. It's not sold in many stores. Very few people use lard. Especially Americans.

The Chinese population is growing so the demand has increased in some pockets.

Regarding Irish butter, like Kerrygold, there is a reason Irish farmers are able to produce such gold colored butter. There are plants that grow in abundance in Ireland that are high in carotenoids.

This is now the case in the US. Vitamin A palmitate is added to feed. And the main ingredients, like corn, are modified to be bright yellow, thus having more carotenoids, thus producing bright orange yolks, when fed to hens.

Olog-hai, you're not very transparent about your egg layer operation.

Frankly, you're being very nosy about something that is not your business. I am not obliged to be forthcoming in any case, but I have not had any chickens in perhaps seven years; once they died off, I did not replace them.

Milk (Re: Eggs)

Posted by LuchAAA on Tue Apr 14 17:20:43 2026, in response to Eggs, posted by LuchAAA on Wed Nov 20 01:45:10 2024.

I've been buying non-homogenized, VAT-pasteurized milk lately.

The top brands are Family Farmstead, Ithaca Milk, and Kalona.

Kalona is Mennonite milk from Iowa. It's A1 milk. The others are A2.

The best is raw milk from Swiss Villa farms in Pennsylvania but a long list of chatters are against raw milk. I'll call them out in a List later. I think ChrisR16 is the most opposed.

Anyway, milk that isn't homogenized has cream on the top. It forms a cream line. As you drink the milk, the cream line forms a ring around the bottle or container. It's very visible when you look at the container.

In recent weeks, I've noticed that there is no cream line. The milk isn't as rich. There is no cream on top.

One person told me the cows aren't producing fatty milk right now and it will improve as the weather gets warmer. This makes sense. I've noticed variation in the past but not like I've seen lately.

Another person told me it's also because the dairy farmers have to skim some cream from the whole milk batches to meet demand for the more profitable cream products like ice cream, etc.......

Many who post here are trying to lose weight and improve healthy and might benefit by increasing saturated fat intake. But they won't.

How can eggs be "pasture raised" in the winter?

For example, last winter was brutal in the north and other parts of America.

The hens has to spend most of their time indoors between December and March. But they're still labeled as "pasture raised".

Simple: chickens go outside in the winter, but of course not all the time. They develop their winter feathers while they molt. Not that egg production is the same in the winter; it slows down a lot. Eggs can last for over three months in a refrigerator.

Why not? Tourism is big business in Ireland. I never heard of any tourist being hurt by any form of sectarian violence. Anyone visiting over there should not be given any implication of supporting any form of Gov't policies or attitudes. Many of my family members have been over there had nothing but praise of the genuine hospitality of the Irish people while enjoying the beautiful countryside.

Its a given that various degrees of antisemitism exists worldwide. Its existence in Ireland, being part of the world wide community, should be no suprise to anyone. That said, It shouldnt intefere or way heavily negatively on making a trip there.
Jews who refuse to visit Ireland strictly because antisemitism exists there is like Jews refusing to come to NYC during the holiday season (when NYC is prettiest IMO) simply because Zohran Kwame Mamdani is the mayor.

It's a surprise to me, since I lived over there and I had a Jewish father and he never had any trouble over there when the country was more Catholic and far less "European". The only people concerned about the "Palestinians" were the radical IRA; otherwise, there was no noise made about them at all.

I have a friend of 65 years. For virtually all his life he's worn a yarmulke "religiously". Wednesday I was to his house to help him after hip surgery. One of the things he asked me to do was move the Hochul for Governor sign on his lawn so it could be seen better. I tried to explain that hochul is a rabid anti-Semite who supports anti-Semitic candidates and anti-Semitic groups. He couldn't see the connection. I felt that i could explain it to him but he'll never get ot. Oh well.
