NY and San Fran, I'll be out on the street cuz I won't be allowed to. America.Nice try; San Francisco uses private contractors to pick up trash. New York doesn't pick up from businesses. |

You pick and choose from a list of a dozen operators in the area, and each one has it's own scheduled days.San Fran may contract/outsource. We don't even touch the gov't. it's beautiful. |

We have private contractors picking up the trash in Suffolk (Brookhaven Township), but they are contracted by the Town municipality level. The Towns chose the carriers and collected the taxes to pay them. They change from year to year. Also, the private carriers contracted by the town, also won't pick up from businesses. Even if you are a business in a residential neighborhood with garbage collection, you still have to hire your own carter. I guess that's because even though the residential pick up is done by private carriers, they are still paid through the Town collected taxes. |

Also, to add, as for recycling, the town hired private carriers also pick up the recycling on Recycling days, and it's the Town that sets the rules on "what is recycled", as well as the days it gets picked up. |
