Little or Littler Italy in NYC?

Posted by cortelyounext on Tue Sep 16 10:32:31 2025

I will be in the city with an old friend from Sienna. We plan to pick a nice day to go to The Met and then walk Central Park and the High Line. He/she/they also asked about visiting an Italian neighborhoods which leads to the following question. I know some of Little Italy and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx but am looking for any recommendations you might have re. the authenticity and safety of either of those destinations or, for that matter, any other? Thank you.

Not much remains of Little Italy in Manhattan, mostly just a couple blocks of mostly mediocre restaurants.

Glad you brought up Little Italy.

San Gennaro Festival is taking place right now.

There was an incident there on Saturday.

Former Philadelphia crime boss, and owner of Skinny Joey's Cheesesteaks had a table at San Gennaro to promote his cheesesteak brand. A NY mob associate named Hootie went there to confront him and "throw a cheesesteak in his face".

Didn't work out that way. Hootie got a beatdown in his own town.

Anyway, if you go to Little Italy, you can check out the San Gennaro Festival.
