This wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for WFH

Posted by Peter Rosa on Tue Apr 29 19:35:36 2025

From Marginal Revolution. Some of these jobs involved sensitive government work.

A 40-year-old Maryland man is facing decades in prison after he allegedly worked with foreign nationals in China to get remote work IT jobs with at least 13 different U.S. companies between 2021 and 2024. The jobs paid him more than $970,000 in salary for software development tasks that were actually performed by operatives authorities allege are North Korean and working out of a post in Shenyang, China, according to the Department of Justice.

Re: This wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for WFH?

Oh? How would no WFH keep communist spies out? The person in question worked at a nail salon—are you saying there are government nail salons??

Minh Phuong Ngoc Vong, 40, of Bowie, Md., will be sentenced in August after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud this month. Vong’s guilty plea is the latest intrigue in what authorities say is a vast fake IT worker scheme that funds North Korea’s illegal nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program. …
Funny how they call someone with a blatant Vietnamese name a "Maryland man". (Original source Fortune Magazine BTW.)

I revealed over a month ago that Trump ended government WFH, which ended a lot of abuses related to not fulfilling work obligations.

Reminds me of when the DNC was protecting their IT workers when they fled back to pakistian. They strangly had no experience but a membershp to a good mosk.

If I were to reply 50 times to this thread, I'm going to remember 50 demonkkkrat esponage cases. I just remembered a 3rd that will need to be another post.
