It's sort of ironic that web element were broken in Opera, as (apart from Safari 2.0), it's the most standards compliant browser out there. Opera 9.0 even passed Acid2, which makes it 100% W3C compliant. Only Safari and Konqueror (KHTML based rendering engines) also have that honor. It's sad that IE's dominance created "new" web standards, which designers often conformed to. I know I used to do that, back in 2002-2004, when IE was the best out there. All my old pages looked like crap in non-IE browsers, as I'd use exotic CSS attributes only supported by IE. It made sense, though, as only 2% of my old site's visitors comprised non-IE users. Now, however, it's split 50% FF, 45% IE, and 5% other browsers. |

My friend installed it a while ago and I think he had a video card driver issue (couldn't get his refresh rate high enough - he has a CRT monitor). Don't remember if he had sound issues. I guess you could apply the old saying - where there's a will there's a way - and say that eventually someone will get around the shortcomings one way or another.Matt |

I'm not sure if it is/was Opera or the site that is/was broken. One of my friends dislikes the practice of fixing the problem by emulating IE's broken behavior; he thinks the site should comply to standards instead. I'm not a developer, so I don't know how easy it is to implement his argument, but in general I would agree with it.I use Konqueror occasionally, usually when I want to trick bad sites that reject "non-blessed" browsers since it offers many cloaking settings, but I don't like quite as much as Opera or Firefox. The one thing that really bothers me though is when a site won't let you in because it deems your browser to be not good enough or something. I should be able to choose if I want to view the site, even if it won't render as it was intended. Matt |

Seems like your Gecko version is too new for that version of FF.-- I just went to SuSE 10.1 with kernel 2.6.16 at the end of last week. Seems to be pretty good so far, but my SBLive 5.1 still doesn't work as well with ALSA as it does in MS Windoze. And the upgrade broke my Pinnacle PCTV bttv card (picture is fine, static for sound, captions don't cut it). Every time I upgrade it seems that at least one thing never works like it should, and it's not always the same thing. :/ Hopefully one of these days they'll get to the point where when you update everything that used to work will work better and the things that used to not work will start to work. Sound is there, but the OS will only see the line-out and not the internal speaker on my laptop.I was downloading 10.4.5 (10.4.1 is on there now) but cable's down until Saturday so I'll have to wait. Graphics my only problem was that OpenGL displayed the wrong colors in some apps. Not a big deal. |
