Why there's some reason to hope with the new administration |
|
|
Posted by Peter Rosa on Fri Jan 17 16:44:37 2025 South Dakota governor Kristi Noem's nomination to head the Department of Homeland Security. While I believe that whole department should be abolished, if we must have it, Noem may be the best choice as its leader.Given the scope of the new position it's not because of her masterful cultivation of a pro-business environment and South Dakota's superb economy. It's that during Covid she did not capitulate to Panty Piddling Paranoia that it was a Guaranteed Death Sentence and kept the state open to the greatest extent of all 50 states. Not like New York, where everyone cowered indoors in mortal dread. Given her courage, there's a good chance that Noem won't surrender to Panty Piddling Paranoia that Islam will Conquer the World and as a result will do her best to rein in the DHS's power. I sure hope so! |

Not only did South Dakota pretend covid wasn't a thing, the meat packers were famously known for betting on which employees were going to fall first, and how badly. With cash money. Some things are unforgettable. |

Wrong again; Noem takes a hard line on Islamic terrorism. You still think that you can mischaracterize that problem after two decades of vapid online pontification because some "authority" estimates the death toll to be just over a quarter of a million people since 1974?? Those victims' blood be on your head then. |

Not only that, the 24 group stores in Bay Ridge (Bay Ruit) don't even sell beer anymore! You gotta find a Korean joint. |

Please, never get "halal" mixed up with "hallel", the Hebrew word for praise.Halal is, however, cognate with the Syriac ܚܠܠ (ḥallel, “to cleanse, to purify”), which would correspond to חלל rather than הלל in Hebrew (but I don't think challel is a Hebrew word). |

Which brings up an intriguing point. Everyone's terrified of Islam yet Halal food is everywhere. Near me, in Suffolk, there are even a couple of popular burger and fried chicken joints that are Halal. |

Everyone's terrified of IslamHuh? Maybe you've been reading OTChat for too long. There are terrorists out there. Some are right wing, some are left wing, many are just nut jobs, and many are Islamic. They have high potential to kill a few people a some potential to kill lots of people. Our government needs to protect us against them (think radiation detectors on routes entering NYC). That doesn't mean most of us are terrified. |

They moved back to Norway, Staten Oslo, N.J., or Penna. by the mid 80s. Even my Squarehead relatives are either dead or in Penna. |
