DOJ vs NYPD over sidewalk parking

To be honest I haven't seen this being done by NYPD with work vehicles or private vehicles.

I don't go around looking but it's something I'd notice if I passed it.

On the other hand, FDNY does it all the time with personal vehicles. They park on the sidewalk and medians.

Odd to see the Feds involved.

Not really odd for the Feds to get involved since it does impact on Federal ADA requirements when both NYPD and FDNY vehicles impede passage of disabled persons in wheelchairs.

They both do it. And naturally it depends on the availability of a lot. St the 100 th precinct there is a lot to accommodate the guys cars. At the 44 there is some parking but the perimeter of the place is filled with cars.

It's heartwarming to know that the biden administration "in-justice department", while seeing daily anti-semetic riots and almost daily shut-downs of federal roadways as not worthy of federal intervention, that they still have the where withall to attack such a vexing problem as illegal police parking. Clearly the current border crisis and the attendant increase in violent crime, too is just an apparition.

Thank you. I was wondering why the feds were intervening in something that is clearly not a federal question, but forgot about the ADA implications.

All the cops parking on the sidewalk is understandable but annoying. They should build parking garages even if it means tearing things down.

If the cops are allowed to park on the sidewalks at precincts, the transit workers should be allowed to park on the sidewalks at terminals.

Then both agencies would be violating ADA rules.

The male hierarchy.

Status.

Certain jobs attract certain personalities and it reflects in their behavior and sense of entitlement.

Cops and firemen are at the top of the hierarchy. Firemen park on the sidewalk and median all over the City.

Transit workers are seen as lower and nit worthy of the same parking privileges.

Honestly I don't see NYPD parking on sidewalks but FDNY does.

I think it's an angle for the feds to get involved.

There are people who are dedicated to taking photos of NYPD vehicles and trying to get NYC to do something about it.

My guess is their efforts have failed at the local level so they're taking their complaints to the federal level and using ADA laws to win this fight.

It's not because the concerned citizens genuinely care about people in a wheelchair. They just want to win vs NYPD.

For example, NYPD vs FDNY hockey game is a big deal. NYCT and DSNY don't have a hockey team.

The annual hockey match is an example of the alpha male energy of those jobs.

They also have battles of the badges for baseball boxing and football. And there are national tournaments for battles of the badges. I don’t know about the TA but sannitash has a softball team. A few TA guys umpire.

I would say it has as much to do with the PD and FD being paramilitary jobs as anything else.

Exactly. That's why I think the Catholic school system produced so many cops and firemen.

I'd say 19 out of 20 of the cops and firemen I grew up with went to Catholic school.

It's the same concept the ex-con Aspergers "First Amendment auditors" do on YouTube and other Social Media do. They really don't care about freedoms, they just want to push public (Government) employees to get a reaction so hopefully they're arrested or assaulted, then they get their ambulance-chasers to sue and hope the municipality just pays out

Yes, because they WANT you to lose your temper. They WANT you to challenge them. The best thing to do is to ignore them. Once they see that, they push the envelope even further.

The joke will be on the usual woke progressive morons who whined to the DOJ about sidewalk parking of all damn things.

The NYPD will simply order the NYCDOT to install more AVO (Police Department - Authorized Vehicles Only) signs at more police precincts. So more parking spaces will then be legitimately reserved for the NYPD. Then the woke progressive's constituents will complain to them about fewer on-street parking spaces being available. LOL!

True.

I think FDNY will also get more parking as a result of this.

One day I was in Ridgewood, Queens and noticed that the NYPD 104 has parking for personal and company vehicles along the LIRR Bay Ridge Branch. I was donating at the Salvation Army around the corner.

Male hierarchy also plays into all this.
