National Coffee Day

Posted by cortelyounext on Thu Sep 28 08:37:23 2023

With apologies to someone who keeps this place informed of important dates and who shall remain anonymous for privacy concerns and out of an abundance of caution and whatnot, National Coffee Day is celebrated tomorrow throughout America and the free world. According to CNN, Peet's Coffee, my "go-to" source at KSFO and KPDX and KDEN, is offering a "Disloyalty Program" to lure customers clients guests call them what you will from rival companies.

Last but not least, September is National Replacement Window Month* which I maintain should be made a federal holiday.

This is one post on OT Chat that I can agree with. Every day should be a coffee day. Thank you for posting it.

Other than the occasional can of Maxwell House or Chock full o'Nuts and whatever I can find during my travels, I have my coffee shipped from Porto Rico Importing Co. on Bleecker off 6th in lower Manhattan. I have been to the brick and mortar and it is a throwback to a time gone by, the storefront and the smell of coffee beans and tea leaves in burlap bags inside 55 gallon drums. The variety and quality of coffees from around the globe is excellent. The cost is as expected, even aside from the shipping, but to me it is worth it.

To be fair, if you were to blindfold me in a "taste-test", I am unsure whether I could always, the operative word being always, pick out the cheap coffee from the expensive brand, assuming the coffees were of the same type from the same region harvested at the same time. Same thing with wine; that is, sometimes I can enjoy an $8 screw cap bottle as much as a similar corked bottle that runs $80. I also cannot tell the distinct smells and tastes of oak and black cherry and toffee and so forth that many claim they can differentiate. I simply know what I like, whether coffee or wine, whisky or beer, and then stay with it. When at a bar I will typically try a whisky or local ale I have never had before and then I can decide for myself and either purchase a bottle(s) at the local liquor store or cross it off my list and chalk it up as a lesson learned.

I am not much of a coffee drinker, but I do agree that there are some cheap wines that I like more than some much more expensive varieties. I will say that my local Total Wines has some nice staff who have alerted me to some inexpensive wines that punch above their weight.

As far as beer I do admit that my favorite is a tad pricier, but I also will try the local products rather than the generic stuff.

Or is it an "online thing"?

Sorry, but since This is one of my Favorite coffee flavors, And I have never heard of this brand before.. My interest is peaked.

I started with coffee late in life. I had it during key study times in college when I needed to pull late nights/all nighters. I started drinking coffee regularly about 15 years ago. I call it my plasma as I'll have 2-3 cups per day.

I don't get the latte thing either. To me they're just creating a desert of sorts. I do ruin it a bit with a teaspoon of creamer, but I can drink it black.

I started drinking it black probably about 15 years ago when I thought my digestion problems were lactose intolerance and that area improved 1,000 percent. Then I started reading that artificial sweeteners are bad for you so I stopped putting Sweet & Low in it. (I am hypocritical as I still drink diet soda) It took me a while to get used to just plain black coffee, especially without sweeteners. Now with just a little sugar or Sweet & Low makes it undrinkable to me.

I can drink coffee with milk but don’t, but sugar or sweetener is disgusting and I will not drink it.

I went straight from no coffee to black coffee, never did milk/cream and sugar.

Also I used to only drink sweet iced tea now I only drink unsweetened iced tea and think sweet tea is nasty.
