Check this out - Fox News had a drone showing illegals walking into Texas unchallenged. The FAA took away its right to fly a drone there.

Had Trump done this, the media would be screaming censorship. The same old story.

Theoretically FAA oversight is safety related and not political. I think that this blurs the line or more likely just moved it for political convenience.

Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) define a certain area of airspace where air travel is limited for a period and may be in place for different reasons. The FAA may use the term "No Drone Zone" to identify an area where there is a TFR. Examples include, major sporting events, presidential movements, or in security sensitive areas designated by federal agencies.
Restriction details of the TFR include, size, altitude, date/time, and what types of operations are restricted and permitted. All pilots are required to adhere to the restrictions of the TFR.

Hmm.

The drone footage I see shows the illegals all stopped by the fence on the US side of the river. Where does it show them "coming in unchecked"?

Also, the Border Patrol has plenty of patrols a few miles in from the border. What indicates those aren't in effect?

Also, did Fox check with the FAA to make sure their drones weren't in the flight path of Border Patrol aircraft?

The FAA has oversight of drones under Part 107 of the FAR.

My guess is they placed a temporary restriction over the area to avoid separation conflicts with Border Patrol aircraft.

In a statement, the FAA said, “The Border Patrol requested the temporary flight restriction due to drones interfering with law enforcement flights on the border. As with any temporary flight restriction, media is able to call the FAA to make requests to operate in the area.”

Is this a real requirement or a red herring?

In any event, this appears to be part of a pattern by the Biden administration to control the collection and dissemination of information at the border. Say what you want about Trump's ideology or mental state, but he was much more open with the media.

It’s a real requirement. Anytime there are aircraft such as emergency response teams or border patrol or whatever, UAVs are not allowed without a waiver. There have been instances of collisions

Al was referencing before the ban. There is no blanket requirement check with the FAA to see if there are emergency flights in the area before flying a drone. That only applies to areas that are already restricted.

Yes, that's the claim. Fox stated that they have been flying the border for 8 months with no issues.

It could be a safety issue, although they already rescinded the ban so probably not. It does fit the pattern of the current administration trying to limit bad news at the border.

What I mean is that you can fly a drone anywhere that isn't restricted. In restricted areas you have to ask the FAA for permission and they may or may not schedule time for you to fly.

But then suddenly these 10,000 people gather near Del Rio, and the Border Patrol has to bring in planes to help track them. Now it becomes an issue.

I get the TFR’s emailed to me by the FAA. I also use a couple of apps that not only tell me where the restricted airspace is but allow me to obtain authorization pretty much instantly through the LAANC system
