Even so, considering how the CDC botched things they were solely responsible for, and the virus was already in the US before we started ringing the alarm bells for real, I think it's a pretty good bet that there would still be a major pandemic if there was a President Clinton. You can throw in nearly half the population's hatred of anything Clinton and a hostile Republican Congress if you think that's not enough. :-S |

It's perhaps increasingly likely that the first human who caught it did so in a lab, and then transmitted it to others. But there is zero evidence that the virus did not originate in bats in Yunnan, given that there was a relatively close cousin from a 2013 Yunnan bat sample. It very well might have gotten from bats to humans via the lab rather than pangolins, though even so I wouldn't say it's "increasingly likely." I'd rather say that the prior declarations that that was impossible were premature. |
