It's very clear from your OP that you just posted this trolling meme for effect, and never actually read the NYT article in question.

The article doesn't say not to think critically. It suggests approaching information on the Internet the way fact-checkers do:

"1. Stop.

2. Investigate the source.

3. Find better coverage.

4. Trace claims, quotes and media to the original context."

This is to insulate yourself from falling into the "rabbit hole" of sites or groups that are very good at pushing propaganda, like the Daily Caller or Stormfront. Stormfront is actually cited in the article as an example of this.

A good example of the "rabbit hole" is the manufactured "outrage" over Dr. Seuss. The right is falsely alleging that "liberals want to censor and 'outlaw' Dr. Seuss as part of 'cancel culture'." The truth, which a little fact-checking reveals, is that Seuss' legacy publisher themselves decided to remove six obscure Seuss books they deemed offensive, from their catalog. But facts don't matter to the right, as long as they can keep you in their own rabbit hole.

Um, of course I read it. It's like a long Will D post.

It's fucking pathetic. Mentioning Stormfront! LOL!

Youtube is mentioned and the point is they want to use cancel culture to delete any channel they don't like, such as Stefan Molyneux.

People like you want censorship. It bothers you that people can share thought, ideas, and facts beyond the boundaries or CNN, NY Times, universities, etc.......

You want tighter control over social media.

No, I don't want "tighter control over social media". What I want is for safeguards to be in place so that sites like Facebook don't turn into OT Chat.

I also don't want "censorship", but given the rampant spewing of demonstrably false tropes by Fox News, Stormfront, the Daily Caller, etc., I want the remedy, speech that is true, to be readily available and easily accessible in rebuttal.

LOL!

I also don't want "censorship",

you just said that you do. #cancelculture

Fox News, Stormfront, the Daily Caller, etc

none of which have any influence on my. I have my sources for diet and nutrition, romance and relationships, aviation, crime, and the way the Left is "progressing" it will all be cancelled.

Look at Stefan Molyneux. Should someone be cancelled for daily rants against single mothers? Don't answer. I know how you think.

"... sites like Facebook don't turn into OT Chat."

That will never happen. With Facebook theres always someone minding the store. You say something "wrong" or "inflammatory" etc, your post gets yanked off and you get sent to Facebook Jail. If your are naughty enough, you'll be banned outright. Right here is the wild wild west of message boards. No moderation, no interference, no nothing as far as oversight. Ultimate freedom of speech, no matter how harsh, offensive & juvenile the posts are.
Point being, you'll never see an "OT Chat Jail" here!

Lumping Stormfront in with Daily Caller shows you know nothing of either.

Daily Caller:
-has defended Ilhan Omar in the face of conspiracy theories claiming she's a Qatar asset
-has countered election fraud conspiracy theories
-Is considered credible news by NewsGuard, a left leaning news credibility rating organization. They *hate* giving right-wing outfits a credible rating and will use any excuse to decertify them, so this is a significant rating.

Fox News: Is right wing MSNBC.

Stormfront: Is a den of neo-nazis.

Fox News is a legitimate news organization with right wing opinion/commentary. But having news together with opinion is an old tradition from print journalism. Since FNC has distinct programs, any reasonable person should be able to discern which is opinion and which is news, the same way there's an editorial page.

Now there is a right wing slant to their news product, which doesn't necessarily affect the factual content and mainly manifests itself in what stories they choose to prioritize. I mean they called Arizona correctly days before anyone else did and I'm sure the right leaning people in the news department were pained by it but they couldn't contradict their polling department. A similar thing happened in 2012 when Megyn Kelly walked over to the polling desk and asked why they were so sure that Obama had won while Karl Rove was being interviewed and disputed the results.

OANN and Newsmax OTOH are pure propaganda.

Oh please. Nobody uses that term any more because there are like 5 actual communist countries and the one main communist country is really corporatist instead of communist.

Yes, Cuba too. I think of China, Vietnam, and Laos as being corporatist. But I guess there is still a lot of government control even of privately owned corporations, much more so than say in Franco's Spain.

So I grant you 5.

Um, it isn't.

It's mostly people showing what they had for dinner, where they have traveled, updating on how much weight they've lost, or what's bothering them.

The problem with the internet is that it allows conservatives to communicate and share thoughts and ideas, which upsets totalitarian democrats.
