Mr. BrooklynBus linked an article in The American Thinker that cast doubt that 400K deaths could be reached, when there were 257K deaths.

What we still don't know is the effect on covid spread of different types of business closures relative to each other and relative to family gatherings.

What we still don't know is the effect on covid spread of different types of business closures relative to each other and relative to family gatherings.

The major reason we don't know is that the US has practically non-existent contact tracing.

Another way to find out would be massive genomic testing. Also, practically non-existent.
