Wingate was invented by the Department of City Planning in the sixties after the high school. (Also, the original Wingate Field was renamed Midwood Field, after Wingate HS was built and got its own field.) It was originally called Pigtown because of all the pig farms there. When it was fully developed after WW II, real estate developers knew Pigtown wouldn't sell houses, so they renamed it Dodger Town. That name stuck until the Dodgers left in 1957. People just started calling it East Flatbush and most still do. I don't think anyone says they are from Wingate. |

Corona was renamed to Willets Point.The real Willets Point is in Bayside, the site of Fort Totten. The subway station was originally named Willets Point BOULEVARD, a minor cross street there at the time.Willets Point BOULEVARD was a road that leads to the real Willets Point in Bayside. |

The center of Corona was always around 103rd and Roosevelt. Presumably it was centered on the LIRR station before the IRT/BMT Corona Line was built. |
