Some states have been doing 100% mail voting for decades. While I believe mail-in voting is superior, and I will vote EXCLUSIVELY by mail once (and if) the state legalizes no excuse absentee voting in 2022, I intend to vote in person this year to minimize the strain on mail-in voting for others and encourage as many people as possible to do so as well, health-permitting. |

Posted by Spider-Pig on Fri Sep 18 17:26:35 2020, in response to Re: Fifty-Three Percent, posted by BILLBKLYN on Fri Sep 18 16:44:49 2020. No, it’s not. First, our Election Day is stupid being on a Tuesday that’s not a public holiday. While New York has ample voting hours (especially now with the early voting but even before with Election Day only 6-9), other states have shitty voting hours. There are states that close polls at 6! WTF is up with that? But even in NY, what if someone has to work a double shift and is forced to do so at the last minute? Now, I can’t complain about where I’ve voted, but in lots of places there are too few polling places. Finally, with COVID there are people that can’t or shouldn’t leave their house to crowd around at a polling place. There is also a reluctance of people to volunteer as poll workers, which would lead to poll closings and consolidations, making it even worse. Look at what happened in Wisconsin with the primary. |
