The Queen's mother's family is Scottish and English in its entirety. The Queen's father's mother's family was half English.As for Prince Phillip, only his mother was of German ancestry. So Elizabeth and Charles are more English than anything else. And once you get to William (after all, Charles is over 70), you'll have very solidly English Spencers as half the mix. |

Queen Mary (paternal grandmother of the Queen) was born in the UK, but had German parents.The Duke of Edinburgh is 100% German. The Greek former royal family is also German. King George I of the Hellenes (his grandfather) was a Danish prince who was elected King of the Hellenes. He wasn't Danish though, as his father King Christian IX was a German prince elected King of Denmark. Prince Philip's paternal grandmother was a Russian princess, i.e. German. |

I didn't go far enough back.But 3 of the last 4 spouses (Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Diana Spencer, and Katherine Middleton) have been from the British Isles by ancestry. |
