Why was Floyd arrested?

Posted by LuchAAA on Mon Jun 1 04:36:55 2020

Who gets arrested for a fake $20?

I mean, with all the fake bills in circulation, I've never seen anyone arrested for passing a fake bill.

Why would police arrest him? Just because one store said he passed a fake bill? No investigation?

sometimes I see supermarkets, usually these shitty stores like C-Town or KeyFood sometimes Stop and Shop with photos on the front door or shoplifters.

I've seen some accused of passing a fake but rarely.

Looking at the Floyd case did they cops actually look at the bill? Or ask the store to show why they thought it's fake?

Good question. You'd think they would first look at the "fake bill" at the store. Maybe they did, but it's odd that none of the news reports mention that. If it was a good fake, it's possible Floyd didn't even know it was fake.

I never seen a fake 20. Maybe that's what's in the stacks of bills I see "children" at the mall carrying.

It doesn't matter why he was arrested. He didn't deserve to die under the knee of a thug with a badge.

I suspect it does matter. I bet if I passed on a fake 20 I wouldn't get arrested; I'd just get questioned.

You folks talking about play money?

I was a cashier at a large discount chain (now gone) before any sort of cashless society, and I never got any counterfeits.
I don't even remember what I would've done had I gotten one. But go figure.

I've heard stories of fake bills overseas though.

I remember an incident where a counterfeiter left a suitcase filled with phony bills on the Madison Av bus. When nobody claimed it the bus driver ended up getting the suitcase. The counterfeiters went to his apartment and took him and his wife hostage. Luckily the bus driver's mother-in-law brought the police to the apartment.

Exactly.

If I pick up a few items and pay cash the cashier holds up all bills and runs a marker.

Valid thread. Many of us pay cash sometimes. Cashier does marker Chechen of bills. Who wants the store to call police because someone got stuck with a fake bill?

It doesn’t matter in the sense that whatever happened, he was killed over something very minor. Still I do want to know what the cops were thinking when they were killing him.

Good for you, but cash is still often used.

That having been said, I'm opposed to laws that ban stores from adopting no cash policies. The argument that it discriminates against the poor is bologna: Do jewelry stores discriminate against the poor because they don't sell anything the poor can buy?

The difference is that many restaurants and food places banned cash. I was one waiting in line (on line in NYC-ese) and the guy in front of me didn’t have any credit cards and seemed hurt when he was told that he couldn’t pay in cash. The restaurant let him take it for free which embarrassed him even more.

As the government and talk radio and the public argues about fudging the numbers of people who die while having Covid-19, but not FROM covid-19

This guy didn't die from the knee as per reports and experts.

The COVID pandemic is an especially good time to ban cash.

We need a public option for banking.

All denominations? You must be in a crappy area. Like I said in an earlier thread, I've only experienced it with a 20 or higher, and even then, not every time.

I think that it's pretty standard at many retail and fast food places in LA. Seems like I've seen it a lot, but I rarely pay with cash anymore. I really only have cash because the coworkers that I go to lunch with like to pay in cash when we split the bill. Outside of that it's almost never.
