It's a bit of a stretch to say I support this, but I DO UNDERSTAND why this is happening. People in minority communities do not enjoy any sense of safety when so much as simply leaving their homes. In fact, they never have. That means they have been living with a stress level WAAAY beyond anything any white person complains of.There were stats published earlier this week on it (search the Times website for the specific article).Basically, for the last 10 years, each and every year, slightly over 1000 black people are killed by police. In contrast, with 2/3 greater numbers, whites are killed by police at half that rate. That says a lot.....if the rates were consistent with the white population, there'd be only a few hundred Black people killed by police every year. That's a huge problem with police that must get resolved. So we have a long term highly stressed population, victims of a clearly defined oppression facing yet ANOTHER event that took the life of an innocent unarmed hardworking man. And the white population is wondering why there's rioting. It's the only outlet that gets attention, proven time and again. We really need to work on this. Seriously. This isn’t happening without reason. And to think the rioters KNOW what they're doing is wrong, that they are only harming themselves. Yet they ALSO know there has been NO OTHER OUTLET towards a resolution. |

So the "white" population doesn't understand but you do? You miserable, hypocritical cunt. You are the white population. You moved to your all white enclave to get away from the hard working people of color who you understand. So tell me how you come by this understanding of "black life". Your hypocrisy is sickening. Your only saving grace is that most morally superior liberals claim the same "deeper understanding" of the black life and they should hate you for your sickening smugness. |

People are upset and want everyone to know how upset they are. It's an emotional outburst but in this instance, it's deserved.I don't support the violence, the looting, attacking police, or the fires. In LA I don't think most of those people committing violence are even there to protest the death of Floyd George. They're opportunists with varied agendas as well as criminals. |

Yankel Rosenbaum was summarly executed for a crime that he did not commit. His killer, part of an angry mob, yelling "kill the Jew", was acquitted by an "impartial" Brooklyn jury. That's what your "I support the riots" mentality gets you. Vengeance, not justice. |

During Stonewall, bricks were thrown through windows, people engaged the cops in hand-to-hand combat, and it took six days for the Rebellion to end.Almost immediately after that, meaningful, positive changes began happening for the LGBTQ community. Riots are ugly and destructive, but sometimes they are also the last resort of the marginalized, dismissed, and "less than". |

But to your question, was Target a branch of the Minneapolis police Dept.? When that woman looted that brand new air fryer, do you think it was going to be used for a curbside memorial for Mr Floyd? You cheapen his death by trying to justify the unjustifiable. |

Real, lasting reforms, including (but not limited to) better training for the police on use of force, better supervision of the cops (if there was a supervisor at the scene of Floyd's death, he or she failed miserably to do their job; if there was no supervisor there, why?), an understanding of why the many questionable, extrajudicial killings of minorities is wrong, and genuine steps towards a less bigoted society, instead of the one we have now which tolerates, enables, and even encourages horrors like the killings of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd. |

There is nothing unjustifiable about making the aristocracy (Target's owners) uncomfortable. Their voices get heard before ours, and they're not interested in having their store trashed, so they will bring pressure to bear on the electeds who can fix the problem that caused the riot to happen in the first place. After the Stonewall Rebellion, small businesses in the Village didn't blame the gays for the destruction. They went to the city council and Mayor Lindsay, and demanded the raids on gay bars stop. |

Yeah, that bullshit worked out really well for the good people of Baltimore who now have to go a lot further to get to their "local" pharmacy. Oh well, the point was made. My fondest hope is that the next time, it should be in your part of Philadelphia. You should stand at your front door and watch your own neighborhood burn. You local food store trashed. Your busses burnt. And you praying that they don't mistake you for one of them. But then you'll understand. Sacrifices have to be made. |
