"Professors, journalists call out Fox News’ coronavirus misinformation in scathing letter"

Posted by Joe V on Fri Apr 3 06:48:03 2020

Fox-Called_Out

"False statements downplaying the prevalence of COVID-19 and its harms; misleading recommendations of activities that people should undertake to protect themselves and others, including casual recommendations of untested drugs; false assessments of the value of measures urged upon the public by their elected political leadership and public health authorities."

"But Fox News does not clearly distinguish between the authority that should accrue to trained experts, on the one hand, and the authority viewers grant to pundits and politicians for reasons of ideological loyalty."

FOX had to save face and a probable law suit by firing Trish Regan. Too bad Hannity and Dobbs were not also put out in the trash.

It's politics. I have switched back and forth between Fox and CNN for the last few days and the major difference between their coverage is their coverage of the President.

Yes, CNN reports the facts about Trump, while Fox continues to broadcast fantasies about Trump.

CNN and MSNBC will play back Trump's caustic, lying, and stupid press briefings through February. Fox will not.

Not really. Much of CNN's reporting is opinion about what was said, what wasn't said and speculation regarding what it means. To various degrees. Don Lemon spends nearly his entire segment discussing Trump while Wolf is more news of the day.

I've been watching more because of the pandemic but I can't imagine the damage that cable news does to the brains of people that watch all day in normal times. I may never recover. 😂

Agreed. More politics. CNN want to do their part to help Biden win the election. Fox obviously favors Trump.

CNN replays video of Trump so you can hear HIS OWN WORDS. How is that "opinion" or "speculation"?

CNN actually doesn't spend much time replaying the conference. But even when they do, they comment after and it's the commentary that I'm referencing, not the video. I think that Fox replays his videos more than CNN does, if that's what you want.

But Biden does not much appear much either. While he is getting Secret Service protection, he is a private citizen.

True. But our elections are not about promoting our guy, they're about bashing the other guy.

No, Fox doesn't "replay the videos more than CNN", because Trump's lies, out of his own mouth, upsets the FOX narrative.

And you know this how? I've watched both networks extensively over the last two weeks. They both play clips to support their narrative, but in my experience Fox plays longer clips and plays them more often

He did an hour yesterday. CBSN ran it in full. It was informative, funny at times and left the viewer wanting more. I hope this becomes a daily thing, especially if he starts taking questions from people, too.

You've watched both Fox and CNN continuously for a full 24-hour news cycle, and counted the number of times each network plays video of Trump?

Which is part of "promoting our guy." Although this sort of bashing isn't enough. You're not going to convince people to vote for Biden by bashing Trump, you'll only convince them to stay at home, which is a vote for Trump.

That's odd, I see misinformation in all segments of the news. I'm reading a supermarket COVID-19 that is cutting and pasting fake news for their facemasks policy for example.

Fox News was the first to talk about the Chinese Virus, don't forget. I posted this one a few weeks ago.

LOL, Huffington Post. Sad to think that the former Ariadne-anna Stassinopoulos was once regarded as conservative too.
