News From CVN71

Posted by Train Dude on Wed Apr 1 22:30:12 2020

My grand daughter, Allie just called from Guam. Her ship is still in port, there. Thankfully, she is still symptom free and will be quarantined off ship for at least 2 weeks. Prayers for th crew and especially those who have tested positive.

Well, Allie is on the phone with my wife now and the off ship quarantine apparentine will happen. It's a shame that the CO's letter leaked. He cares about his crew.

There are 77 covid 19 positives on Guam. The number of symptom free, untested unknown. This does not include those from the Roosevelt. Your granddaughter is better off than being on the ship but not yet out of danger.

It's a shame that the CO's letter leaked.

I assume you were smiling, when you wrote that. She would still be on that ship, if the letter were not made public.

He [ship's CO] cares about his crew.

He'll apply for retirement at the end of this tour.

No Tiger Cruise This time Was: News From CVN71

Obviously, I was sort of hoping to make the trip from Pearl to Coronado this time out.

Hopefully her quarantine passes uneventfull. My brother on LI is a first responder and was tested yesterday for COVID-19. Based on his symptoms he probably has it.

Sorry to hear that. On a positive note, my oldest grand daughter is an ICU nurse at a major city hospital. She tested positive about 2 weeks ago and is ready to go back to work. Many seem resilient and resistant to it.

How did the media get a hold of this?

The letter would have gone past many people in the military and Defense Department. All it takes is one person who thinks that a better outcome would result from leaking the letter, and out it is.

Try to protect your crew, lose your ship.

That is wrong on so many levels...

What you say is true. However, if the Captain had any direct part of leaking the story to the media, I can understand his being relieved. Keep the "dirty laundry in the hamper" sorta speak. Other than that, I don't understand him being relieved.

I thought you had to be sick to be tested, or I heard that sometimes they can't even find you a test.

Was she a really mild case?

That seems to be a hard luck command. The previous captain was relieved after an incident which resulted in CVN71 being sidelined for 18 months as I recall.

Yes she had the fever and other symptoms. I don't know about the severity but by the time the results were available, her fever had broken. She had to be tested again before they would allow her to return to work. I don't know about the results of that test.
