Profiteering/Price Gouging On Ebay

Posted by Train Dude on Thu Apr 2 14:47:45 2020

Is anyone surprised?
When in stock, this item sells at most local supermarkets for $2.79. E bay takes a percentage of the selling price so it is in their best interest for items to sell at the highest price possible but do they have a moral obligation to prevent this from happening?

I guess I'll spill the secret here: grocery stores have been out of cleaner for a while, but I found that Home Depot has plenty of it.

Yes, and they open at 6AN. Unfortunately, my local home depot does not have this particular cleaner.

I was watching an auction for two cans of lysol. It was up to 20 something bids and $140 bucks before the auction vanished and was taken down.

I find it interesting because I can see what clear price gouging is, but this was a proper auction, unless they had fake accounts.

I'm not surprised at all. That's why I wouldn't think of buying anything like this from eBay. Worse comes to worse, I'll try Amazon first. eBay has been good for acquiring some HO-scale cars and engines for my collection (since the local hobby shops have gone out of business, apparently Cubans don't like model trains), but that's about it.
