I wasn't really listening but I heard this in the background. If we're talking about the same thing, then I think what he actually said was along the lines that he (Trump) wouldn't call those people back, but that Pence is a nice guy and calls back everyone. It was a joke, but obviously rooted in truth. |

As a joke, it's just in bad taste. |

Your choice: was this a joke in very bad taste, or was it a deliberate criminal directive to reduce the efficacy of treatment?Link |

He didn't say that he's not providing any necessary aid. He didn't say that he wouldn't take the calls, just that he's not rushing to call them back. I don't imagine very many people get calls back from any President. You keep calling until you get him. |

I looked it up and Trump clarified and it wasn't a joke. He did tell Pence that. From what I gather from his POV Whitmer is playing politics, so he wants her frozen out. I don't know if this impacts the assistance that the state would be getting or who they would talk to instead of the governor. |

The alternative (that he deliberately wants to slow down federal aid to Michigan, because that is what would happen if Pence didn't return the governor's phone calls) is too horrible to contemplate. |

Firstly, I don't think that Trump and Pence return every phone call, nor do I think not returning a phone call is horrible, even during a pandemic. Secondly, Trump and Pence have to react in the way that they think is the best for the country. They don't distribute aid based on the order of phone calls and it may indeed be appropriate to slow down aid to one place in favor of sending the aid that's available somewhere else. |

But Pence is the covid-19 coordinator. It's Trump specifically and publicly directing Pence not to return the calls of the governor of Michigan that I object to.And what do you mean by overreacting? I said I believe it was a joke in bad taste. Isn't that a pretty mild reaction? |

I don't think it's that unlikely that Trump was serious. He has the sociopathic personality for it, he has little to fear except being unpopular with his base, and he knows that right now, he has the red states and Democratic governors over a barrel. |

If he meant what he said, it's a criminal action. If he meant it, he was telling Pence to make sure more Michiganders die than other Americans.I think he didn't mean it. But that makes it a joke in very poor taste. |
