Burr was never convicted of killing Alexander Hamilton in the duel. Later in his life he became an attorney and dealt with another Hamilton, District Attorney Hamilton Burger.

Second Republican Senator Reportedly Sold Off Stock Holdings Ahead of Coronavirus Market Plummet

By Ken Meyer
Mar 19th, 2020, 10:50 pm
A new report indicates that Senate Intel Committee chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) was not the only member of Congress who dumped a large portion of their stock portfolio before the coronavirus sent the market into a nosedive.

The Daily Beast reports that Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) — who is married to Jeffrey Sprecher, chairman of the New York Stock Exchange and CEO of the business services company Intercontinental Exchange — attended a classified briefing about the coronavirus in late January. On that same day, she sold somewhere between $50,001 and $100,000 worth of stock from Resideo Technologies.

The Resideo stock was reported as “jointly owned” between Loeffler and her husband, and the stock price has plummeted since the transaction was completed. The Beast goes on to report that Loeffler and Sprecher made over two dozen other stock sales afterwards, plus she has purchased between $100,000 and $250,000 worth of stock from in Citrix, “which has seen a small bump in its stock price since Loeffler bought in as a result of coronavirus-induced market turmoil.”

The report on Loeffler comes shortly after NPR released audio of her colleague, Senator Burr, giving an alarming assessment of the coronavirus to a private gathering of wealthy, well-connected attendees. On top of that, ProPublica reported that while Burr was publicly shrugging off the threat level of the disease, he was also dumping up to $1.7 million worth of stock before the market took its dive.

The reports on Burr and Loeffler both raise questions about whether they can be charged for insider trading. Burr has hit back at NPR for how his words were characterized, but even though Loeffler has yet to issue a public response, here are some tweets from her in recent weeks where she insisted the economy was strong and Democrats were to blame for “dangerously and intentionally” misleading the country.

Loeffler was appointed to her senate seat by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp after her predecessor, Johnny Isakson, retired for health reasons. She will be competing against incumbent congressman Doug Collins (R) for the job in the state’s special election later in the year.

I followed the publicly available info on Coronavirus extremely closely, including foreign news reports. When the WHO back in January swallowed China's bullshit on it not being person-to-person transmissible, I saw right through it. I spent over $1k on food and other supplies in February alone. Yet not even I thought it was going to be terrible enough on the economy to move all my stock holdings into bonds (though I considered it).

Burr had to have known more than *anyone* how bad it truly would get (perhaps real data not being filtered through China's lying govt/media).

Dianne Feinstein and her husband sold a whole bunch of stocks too. But she and Loeffler say their money is in a blind trust and that neither they nor their husbands made the sell decisions. Burr doesn't seem to have made a similar statement.

It’s hard to be surprised by this.it really is. The RWers flail about daily about imagined corruption, which turn out to be legal activity done by their political opponents, while ACTUALLY engaging in real, true corruption.

The truth about pandemic readiness came out a few days back, the drill they recently ran a few months back was an epic FAIL. Yet Burr said they weren't, then dumped his stock. If that isn't corruption I don't know what is. Remember trump had NO TRIAL, just a brush-it-under-the-rug vote by a syncopantic, cajoled PARTISAN majority of fifty three.

I think it's highly suspicious that Loeffler cashed out before the information she received was known to the general public, and her husband is the NYSE chairman and CEO.

I also find her activities, and those of the other GOP senators (and Dianne Feinstein) who cashed out, questionable.

Apparently that was another blind trust I believe. However, if I am mistaken and this was something that she directed and there were no special circumstances as I will describe later, I would feel differently. Sens, Inhofe and Johnson had a pattern of selling some investments because they owned stock in companies now with business before their committees but for tax reasons couldn’t dump it all at once. I have zero problem with that.

Reporters will be asking for copies of the trust documents, and will be wanting to interview the trustees. Stonewalling will become very obvious very quickly.

So far, the consensus seems to be that Feinstein, Inhofe, and Johnson's trades don't suggest insider trading, Loeffler's trades are hard to read anything from given the large assets of her and her husband, but that Burr definitely committed insider trading.

A Legitimate blind trust is a complete defense against insider trading, no matter what the size of the trades (of course, if the prosecutors can prove that information leaked between the trustee and the beneficiary, that's different).
