No one really seems to know for sure.

But when the world population consists of a few hundred thousand hunter gatherers, the people just move to wherever the climate is decent. That doesn't work when there are 6 billion people or so, and it doesn't work well when the temperature changes happen so quickly.

But the point is that the Earth warmed up, big time without the help of 6 billion people making their "contributions". Could it be that the Earth warming is part of a cyciclical pattern where the Earth warms/cool itself over the period of eons as a part of a natural planetary solar system evolution? Strictly speculation here.

There is naturally caused cyclical warming and cooling. Scientists have demonstrated that the current warming is caused by humans.

And what if it were naturally caused? We would still have to try to use human means to counter it, because now there are 5 billion of us and we can't roll with the punches like we could 10,000 years ago.

Because natural climate changes used to happen over very long periods of time, over many thousands of years unless a catastrophe occurred. There is nothing that explains why global temperatures are increasing except the increase in carbon dioxide, which correlates with the Industrial Revolution.

There is plenty of oil company money in proving man-made climate change doesn’t exist, but even the oil companies know it does. There’s more money behind proving it doesn’t exist than it does exist. You just refuse to pay attention.

There were no global cooling fears in the 70s. The anti-AGW religion likes to point to a few popular magazine covers as proof of a scientific consensus that didn’t exist.

lol. sure "we" can. although probably with a lot fewer of "us". hence, a self-correcting phenomena. we breed until we exceed our limits of sustainability. then we experience a die-off...say, 95 % of existing populatiion.

then we start over. simple science. humanity perseveres.

this amazes me. the ignorance.

you do understand that this lifestyle you live, the basic stuff that we take for granted, at least in this country, the clean water, the safe and comfortable shelter, the availability of plentiful food, the ease of travel, the refrigerators, the lights, central heating, by and large peaceful surroundings and contented lives...all of that would NEVER have come into existence without the industrial revolution, right?

Correct, and that industrial revolution has brought CO2, which has brought global warming.

We now have the technology to continue the industrial revolution while emitting lesser amounts of CO2.

As I point out ridiculously often here, the same effect can have different causes.

If a forest fire can be cause by someone failing to properly extinguish a camp fire, it can also be caused by a natural lightning strike.

So the fact that natural warming/cooling cycles have previously occurred doesn’t mean that it can’t also have a human cause.

It's ridiculous.

You've got the right wing saying, we never would have had modern civilization without burning fossil fuels, so let's keep on burning fossil fuels.

And you've got the left wing saying that past and current industrialization has caused an unhealthy buildup in CO2, so let's reverse the industrialization.

Sometimes it seems half the world can't think clearly.

Too many loud, knee-jerk reactions.

I can kind of see where the leftists are coming from - industrialization caused the problem, stop industrialization, and go back to "nature" (never mind how unfriendly nature can be). But luckily, far more people are innovating. It's just a matter of how much we will adopt.
