If the economy enters a recession (two consecutive quarters of negative growth), does Trump own it, or is that somehow retroactively Obama's fault? 🤔🤔🤔

It's obviously Obama's fault for surrendering to the Chinese and let them manufacture so many critical things for our economy, so that now when they have an epidemic our economy can't function correctly.

If Trump had been President in 2008, none of that would have happened.

I bought after the initial fall and got hosed today. But I had been waiting for a fall to buy more, so whatever. I’m still up on the year and that’s not counting my day trading activity which was quite lucrative.

Yep. Like the Federal Reserve can lower interest rates in times of recession, except when the President has strongarmed them into lower rates in good times so that they can't go down much further in a recession.

Or the government can regulate banks to prevent them taking on too much risk. Except when the banks successfully lobby the President to revoke those regulations.

And so on.

In this case,absolutely.

He keeps claiming his policies are bringing back millions of manufacturing jobs. That has NOT happened. Even then, China especially as well as many Asian countries, are a major links in the supply chain for domestic manufacturing (what there is of it).

I think if I'm one who had some $$$ in the market that I was planning to cash out in the short term 1-12 months... I'd seriously consider bailing at this point. In for the long haul... Sit tight and hope (and pray) for the best.

If you're a retiree slowly cashing out your IRA, what I would recommend is to cap your withdrawals at 1/2% per month* of the total balance. That may hurt if the total balance goes down a lot, but it will preserve your capital for the future.

If you withdraw (and spend) a fixed dollar amount rather than a percentage, then when the market goes back up you will have lost money. But if you withdraw a fixed percentage, fluctuations don't kill you.

* Based on long term expected returns (hopefully) of 6%.
