I would rank George Washington and Thomas Jefferson ahead of him. I do agree that we should have a Federal holiday, but I also believe that Election Day should be a national holiday and nobody should be compelled to work during the hours that the polls are open. |

I agree that there national elections should be a national holiday, although I don't believe that will garner that many more voters. And even though I like Thomas Jefferson, I don't think he ranks better that Lincoln. Why do you think he does? |

Among other things he lowered the National Debt, expanded the United States through thew Louisina Purchase, established United States Military Academy at West Point, ended the legalized slave trade. Also did a lot for the United States before and after his presidency. |

Most of the country already gets to vote whenever they want to. One of the biggest states in the country lets you vote in the supermarket while your buying groceries. This whole conversation that spider-pig is bringing up is outdated by a few centuries and pointless. And during Football Season. |

In some Southern states particularly, church congregations would hire buses and head to early voting. As the powers that be saw these particular groups voting over a few cycles, they suddenly decide Sunday early voting is costing too much, when all it was costing them was their hold on power. |

My uncle complains about "poll busing" as if providing free transportation to people to vote is a bad thing. Years ago, the MTA and various other transit systems around the country suspended fares in New Year's Eve/New Year's Day, to curb drunken driving. I think that's an idea whose time has come for Election Day, as an incentive for people to go out and vote. |

Reagan reached 270 before western polls close. They didn't wait for polls in Alaska and Hawaii to close to announce Obama as the winner in 2008.Not the media, but I called it before the western polls closed. |
