Germany rounds up refugees

Posted by Orange Blossom Special on Fri Jan 17 13:09:01 2020

Least that's what Obama called such a thing 10 years ago.
****
Authorities in Germany arrested suspected Islamist terrorists in a series of raids across the country Tuesday morning, AFP reported.

Chechen nationals suspected of being part of a terrorist plot were arrested in police raids in Berlin, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Thuringia, the Berlin attorney general’s office announced in a tweet.

“On suspicion of planning a serious violent act endangering the state, search warrants are being executed in Berlin, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia.”

The suspects arrested in the raids range in age from 23 to 28, and according to Berlin police are suspected of “having scouted locations” for a possible terrorist attack.

Police say their suspicions regarding the terror cell were first raised after one of the terrorist’s cell phones was examined during a routine police stop. Pictures on the phone raised officers’ suspicions, leading to a wider investigation culminating in Tuesday’s raids.

According to Der Spiegel, one of the targets the terror cell was considering for their planned attack is a Berlin synagogue. Video footage of the synagogue taken by cell members was found by police, the report said.

I might flip Obama and Clinton, otherwise IAWTP. Of course, I lived other more Presidents than you (Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter), but I don't feel like ranking them (I was too young to remember Ike and JFK and early LBJ).

Trump just brought about the people who could latch to a person who said all the shit they were to scared to say out loud because they would be seen as weird and out of touch.

Trump is the boomers generation last gasp of breath. Conservatism died. Reganism died. A hypocritical president for an embarrassment of a generation.

I could rank every president if I wanted to, so I’ll rank the presidents of my paternal grandmother’s lifetime:

1. Harry S. Truman
2. Franklin D. Roosevelt
3. Dwight D. Eisenhower
4. John F. Kennedy
5. Lyndon B. Johnson
6. Barack Obama
7. Bill Clinton
8. Richard Nixon
9. George H. W. Bush
10. Ronald Reagan
11. Calvin Coolidge
12. George W. Bush
13. Gerald Ford
14. Jimmy Carter
15. Herbert Hoover
16. Warren Harding
17. Donald Trump

NOTE: She missed Woodrow Wilson by several months.

Since it’s obvious I’m ranking Trump in the 40s, the presidents I would actually rank lower are John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, and Andrew Johnson.

You have Obama too high and George W. Bush and Gerald Ford too low IMHO. Bush's downfall, and this is also just my opinion, was that he didn't realize until too late what Dick Cheney was trying to do. I think the economy would have rebounded sooner had Bush realized earlier. Once he disengaged from that group progress was being made.

If Carter would have able to pull off the rescue of those Iranian held hostages, he'd have been cannonized, reelected & Reagan would have been sent to obscurity a has been actor & has been politician.
But it wasn't meant to be. Carter rolled the dice...and lost. I'd give him credit for that at least.

it used to be, the upcoming generation was smarter than the previous generation. learning from their mistakes, etc.

this time around though, it's the reverse. the upcoming generation is stupider than the previous generation. which is pathetic. especially when you consider that in this case the previous generation "only" had libraries as their prime source of information along with TV and radio.

it's like, the previous generation created an entirely new way to gather, store and examine information and said here ya go. take these new tools and fly! and the upcoming generation basically said no, all these new tools you've given us only show how stupid you old fucks were. and all we're mainly gonna do is continue to tell youse how stupid you were.

dumbest generation ever, this upcoming generation.

He did it when he was President too. At the urging of his anti-Semitic National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, he forced Israel to cede land that it successfully gained after repelling armed invasion. It would be like saying the United States would have to cede much of its western portion to Mexico.

I think you mean our Generation X generation giving the Millennials the tools. But "Upcoming Generation"? The Millennials are not "upcoming", they are full force. The one after them is the "upcoming one", you may be thinking 10 years in the past.

I still feel the baby boomers were/are the worst. Total squanderers. But it's probably the silent generation that is to blame as they gave us the boomers.

the children of today's whatever-you-wanna-call-'em generation will make them regret many many things. gonna be hell to pay before they put them out to pasture. for one thing, there's gonna be a planet-load of anger at how "today's generation" put their formulative years on display so that everybody could see all their embarrassing moments as they grew up. that's a major major fuck up.

and they'll see pics and vids of old fashioned brick and mortar retailing, busy streets and curse "today's generation" for ruining all that because of their fascination with groovy walkie-talkies.

i predict mass movements towards killing their "elders"...you know, "today's generation"... as they sleep.

re: And not wanting to bomb the German trains leading to the death camps

All the allies seemed to step back on this issue and not give a damn. - didn't the USAF say their planes could not reach these destinations in Poland and Eastern Europe, but it has been researched that this was indeed possible?*

A year or two back, I read the book about Churchill's writing his six vol. Second World War work ("Fighting the Second World War" IIRC by David Reynolds) - . Reynolds stated in his book, that Churchill included little or no material on the death camps in his books, since, though he did discuss the camps with Allied command after receiving info. about them through resistance networks; objections as above were brought forward, and Churchill dragged his feet, and didn't push the issue further.

*"Auschwitz and the Allies" published during the early 1980s. There have been other books out since then which covered this subject, though I do not remember their titles.
--- interestingly, I found a German paperback volume in Harvard's main library (back when I lived in Boston) the title roughly translated as 'Why wasn't Auschwitz bombed?"
