He can hook up with Olivia DeHaviland, who turned 103 in July.

“Russianized” would mean spelled in Cyrillic. And in any event, his parents weren’t from Poland or some other country that uses the Latin alphabet.

Grow up.

Olog posted a commonly accepted system of spelling that historians, museums, every book on earth, wikipedia, every newspaper, etc. uses. And where do you choose to invent some 13 year olds logic and attack? On subchat instead of going to the source and insult them there.

That's taking being a piece of shit to a new low.

So nope, no one is seeking help from you till you fix yourself.

They use it for people from Poland.

Douglas's father wasn't from Poland. He was from a portion of the Russian Empire where the Cyrillic alphabet was used, and a place where it is still used.

That's pedantically true; however, the French-derived transliteration was how Russian names were transliterated in English for a long time rather than Polish names, where "wicz" for example gets pronounced "wits" in American English rather than "vich".

Which sucks because then the names get unnecessarily mispronounced. Polish spelling rules are perfectly fine for writing the Polish language, but since the rules are different from English rules, it’s bad to use them for translating between two other languages.

Do you happen to have any idea how "wicz" is pronounced in Polish? I wouldn't be surprised whether it's "vitch" or "vits" but I don't actually know. All I know is that a c in Czech is pronounced "ts."
