There's no specific Hebrew greeting for Yom Kippur, although there are several which are relevant for the day. The standard festival greeting is Chag Sameach – pronounced CHAG sah-may-ach – which means simply 'happy holiday' and which can be used as a greeting for any Jewish festival.

This a new one to me! Thankscortelyounext

Although it's that time of year for my favorite choke, why can't Black people catch Jewish people during Yom Kippur?

'Cause they fast!

You're welcome...

The most common greeting for Yom Kippur is said in Hebrew: 'g’mar chatima tovah', which means 'a good final sealing' and frequently shortened to shortened to' g’mar tov.'

"Sealing" refers to the end of the Ten Days of Repentance between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, the belief that a person’s fate for the coming year is written by G-d on Rosh Hashanah and sealed, i.e., finalized, on Yom Kippur. So, for example, if G-d had decided to write your name in the Book of Death, which means in the new year you would die, true repentance during the Ten Days for your sins over the past year will "convince" G-d to reverse His decision and write your name in the Book of Life.

I'd point out that everyone is having this conversation on the day of...

but it's a lot better than what I get from corporate america and hippie businesses. A flood of emails on December 24th telling me to enjoy my holiday. No one every tells me what my holiday is supposed to be then.

So I heartily say thank you.

Yeah, I was trying to do a "reply all" really, and the first was still during the holiday.
