9-11 Sounds of Silence Tribute

Posted by Dave on Thu Sep 12 12:39:21 2019

Set to Disturbed's cover of The Sounds of Silence.

Excuse me while I go cry. Again. It's been 18 years and for me the wound is still too raw. A next-door-neighbor from when we were growing up died in Tower 1.

Dave,

I had no idea. So sorry for the loss of your neighbor. Awful. And to think we me for the first time just a week before that.

I was 2 blocks away at 20 Pine St at the time and I can still remember all that I
heard, saw, and did.

Although my job was a financial analyst, I was also the fire warden (volunteer) on my office floor and had to make sure that all my co-workers did not panic and stayed safe until a formal evacuation was done.

Go ahead & cry, Dave. My brother was killed there on that day. He was on the 98th fl of the north tower. That plane came in right on his lap. I'm sure He died before he realized anything was wrong. Its been 18yrs & the wound will never heal. He left a wife & three kids.
But an added pain was being with my mom on that day. At the time they were rerunning the footage over and over of the planes crashing into the towers on TV. We weren't sure if he was there or not at the time. Mom asked me what floor Warren was working on. I said the 98th. She says 'oh my god, he's gone" I say, "mom its too early, we dont know for sure, maybe he's out of town, maybe his train was late, maybe he went out for a pack of butts, maybe this, maybe that". I went on and on. She wouldn't hear any of it. "Don't worry mom, the phone will ring" I pleaded.
She wouldn't listen & looked me right in the eye, sobbing & told me, " A mother knows, I feel what I feel...MY SON HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM ME!"
Unfortunately she was right, the phone never rang. Our mom passed in 2005, going to her eternal rest with the pain of outliving her son.
So go ahead and cry, Dave. One thing you may know by now, when you think you're out of tears, you always manage to find some more.

Your post made me cry, and then angry. I can’t ever feel sad about 9/11 without feeling anger.

Yeah, it's one of the best remakes of an older song I've heard. The first time I heard it a while back, it too send shivers down my spine. And it does go well with this tribute too.
