If the President can force an agency like NOAA to co-sign his bullshit, why should any of us believe or depend on their weather forecasting?

Yep. The NWS should never say "not" when something is a small probability rather than a zero percent probability. It should have said, at the time, that Dorian was not expected to affect Alabama.

He should have just shut up about it. While I don't think he forced them to do anything, this makes everything look bad.

Democrat candidates just spent 7 hours creating sound bites for Republicans to use in attack ads, and Trump handily gave the media an 'out' from having to discuss any of it by harping on fucking Alabama.

LOL. You can't get anywhere on that track. Trump has lied over things vastly more important than the weather.

The only thing that makes this episode important is that it shows Trump's unwillingness to admit to even the slightest mistake, instead covering it up with ridiculous petty lies.

If he had just originally said, sorry Alabama was never a likely target, no one would have thought an iota less of him for it.

True. But wasn't it similar when Obama slipped and said 57 states and then his people tried to say that he meant 57 primaries instead of admitting that he made a mistake?

That is admitting a mistake. It's oops, no there aren't 57 states.

Was it false that there were 57 primaries and caucuses? If so, I would agree it is more similar.

Saying there are "57 states" won't cause people to fear for their lives and make unnecessary evacuation or other hurricane preparations.

Having lived in hurricane prone areas I know that the message as to where hurricanes are heading is very fluid. While people want the information to be as accurate as possible (and Trump's certainly wasn't) very few people are going to panic as the forecast changes because it changes so often.

If the President of the United States tells me a hurricane is coming, I should reasonably expect such a statement to be true.

Of course, this is far from a normal presidency.

Not "true" because no one really know. You should reasonably expect that it's based on accurate scientific information and this wasn't. Either way even the most likely predictions a week or so out seem to be wrong way more than they're right.

Actually, the Hurricane Center's projected track for Dorian was accurate several days in advance. Even while the storm was stalled over the Bahamas, the forecast called for it to turn NNE and hug the coast, which is exactly what Dorian did.

Except for one early strand in a spaghetti model that brushed one corner of extreme northwestern Florida, no projections even came close to Alabama.

Just realized the "4-d chess" argument: Trump's reallocating of 3.6 billion from various defense related projects across the country (Including 160 Million from West Point) to the border wall. But, everyone look at the sharpie!

I think the mainstream media may have forgotten what news is. If they actually wanted to make Trump look bad, they would do story after story about each of the projects getting shafted.

Here's a hyper-editorialized CNN opinion piece about it.
