Trump says the 1977 Emergency Economic Powers Act authorizes him to order American companies not to do business with China.1) No "emergency" currently exists. (I'm sure Trump will creatively manufacture one.) 2) EEPA was meant to protect against terrorists and drug dealers, not global trading rivals. 3) Unless the Chinese are smuggling bootleg ballistic missiles into the country, I doubt his use of EEPA will answer. Somehow, counterfeit Avengers movies just don't seem to rise to that level. Even the Mouse anticipates and budgets for that already. |
