The drawing of that district. But it was also for partisan advantage. REPUBLICAN partisan advantage.

You are so gullible!

Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania until the state courts intervened.

Vs. Maryland.

That is 8 states gerrymandered in favor of "Republicans" versus 1 for Democrats. Districts surrounding Chicago don't surprise me because rather than having two districts that are part Chicago and part suburb by doing what they do with Chicago's 4th District they can pack Chicago into one district and the surrounding suburbs into a separate district.

Where do I live? I'll give you a hint, it's Chicago. That district was drawn to maximize the number of Hispanics to ensure an Hispanic is elected.

Gerrymandering is wrong. Districts should be drawn bases on population, not socioeconomic or race or political affiliations.

Given who supported this, it was obviously drawn to pack as many Hispanics into a single district in order to keep them out of suburban districts who could then elect a Republican.

IAWTP.

I think single-member districts should be abolished entirely. It's the only way to ensure fair representation.

That’s what we have now. Where the state is divided into a number of districts of equal population, all of which elect exactly one legislator.

I don't want that because it will lead to overrepresentation of areas and some areas won't have any. In a state like New York, everybody would be from New York City even though New York City makes up less than half the state by number. What I could see doing is that each party puts up a slate of candidates with a requirement that one has to come from each district. After that, the Congressional seats are apportioned based on the percentage a party receives in the general election (if a State has 20 seats and the result is 55-45 then the delegation will be split the first 11 from the winning party's list and the first 9 from the losing party's list). Especially in large states, this would give third parties a legit shot at winning a seat or two.

No, it wouldn't. With proportional representation, 40% of the state's voters elect 40% of the representatives.

There should be no geographic requirements whatsoever. Just because I live somewhere doesn't mean I agree with my neighbors. I should be able to vote together with like-minded people across the state and have my vote count.

I agree with the latter part of your post. That's called "proportional representation".

Your initial post did not mention "proportional representation" only the elimination of single-member districts. I would be against elimination if the result was winner take all. I like the geographic diversity better because the current system does provide for a relatively local congressional office. Using New York as an example again, if both major parties chose entire slates from the "downstate" region, who would the person in North Tonawanda contact?

What do you mean? Are you talking about like where you are asked to "Vote for any (e.g.) 5" and then the top (e.g.) 5 are elected? I agree that it is an abomination.

North Tonawanda is insufficiently populous to get a Congressional Representative. If Western New York citizens are miffed by a slate of candidates entirely from downstate, they can vote for a third party with WNY reps or even form their own.

With "below the line" voting, they can even split their votes between their preferred party, and just the candidates they want from another party.

Tell me your kids, who are only about to really begin their lives, agree with that twisted response.

I'm nowhere near beginning, yet I think trump has been absolutely insane WRT this issue. Renegotiations and refinement were never pursued, he just stupidly threw the baby out with the bath water, and now the drain's clogged. Nobody gave him permission to blow us all up. Certainly the American voters didn't.....
