If this happened, Bingbong's head would explode

Posted by Dave on Mon Jul 22 01:55:58 2019

"Trump could win while losing the national vote by as much as five percentage points."

And before our resident Fool screams "Fox" like a little girl, here is the NY Times article Liz Peek is referring to:

Trump’s Electoral College Edge Could Grow in 2020, Rewarding Polarizing Campaign

Many people's heads would explode. That would be a seriously undemocratic outcome.

It's worked well for over 200 years. Suddenly, you don't get the result that you want and you want to scrap the entire system. Very mature.

Except that it did not work well AT ALL!

And an appeal to tradition won't work on me. Tradition is an extremely poor reason to stick with anything.

It does need to be amended again. We need term limits for Congress members more than we need to eliminate the electoral college.

It's interesting that you want a popular vote for president but are okay with the house and not a popular vote deciding changes to the Constitution.

Because the Constitution has an Amendment process. It does not provide for popular vote of Amendments. It has to come from 2/3 of both houses of Congress or 2/3 of states can call for a convention for proposing amendments. It must then be ratified by 3/4 of the states.

DC, PR, USVI, Micronesia (Guam plus Samoa).

I'm willing to be generous and not have CA split into 5 blue states and 1 red state, though that would be a lovely exercise in gerrymandering. (I oppose gerrymandering even if it might help Democrats.)

I support gerrymandering for the benefit of Democrats if it is to fight fire with fire.

I support USVI and Marianan statehood because it's about fucking time we realize how ridiculous it is for every state to have two senators.

Thanks for brining this to my attention. It's another Republican gerrymander, this one engineered by a child rapist:
Congressman Dennis Hastert, a suburban Republican, filed a federal lawsuit claiming that the existing congressional map was unconstitutional;[11] the present congressional district boundaries emerged as a result of that lawsuit. A three-judge panel of the federal district court adopted the map proposed by Hastert and other Republican members of the Illinois Congressional delegation.[12] Subsequent lawsuits challenging the redistricting as racially biased[13] did not succeed in redrawing the district boundaries.
