Can't put my finger on what is worse in general.Jersey drivers are very bad at signalling. For turning the corner, they generally hit the brakes first, than as about to turn the steering wheel, start signalling, which defeats the whole purpose by that time, but they give themselves credit for signalling. |

Doing the unexpected is inherently dangerous and that would include signaling. How dangerous speeding is depends on many factors like weather, road conditions, the condition of your car, and whether or not everyone else is driving at a similar speed. If everyone is driving 80 and you're driving 55, technically you're driving more dangerously. |

The reason I asked is I rented a car couple weeks ago and allegedly I was caught on radar speeding 6-10 mph over the speed limit. The ticket was issued by the city of Chicago for $35.00. Depending of where or how fast I was going. IMO, for the most part, not signaling causes more accidents than going over the speed limit. So many times vehicles change lanes without signaling, cutting vehicles off. By signaling that you want to change lanes, I will accommodate you. That prevents accidents. Perhaps a vast majority of them. IMO. |

Not signaling definitely causes accidents. On the other hand, there are times when the traffic is light and nobody is anywhere that they would care whether you signaled or not.Speeding also is very often totally safe, but also does cause accidents. I agree it probably causes fewer accidents than not signaling, but they can be much more serious ones, just because an accident is more dangerous the faster you are going. The biggest causes of accidents are probably distraction (which can show itself in a far worse way than just not signaling), drowsiness, and substance impairment. |

To claify, I meant between not signaling and speeding is more dangerous. I don't care how light traffic is, you should always signal. Even in a parking lot, or parking on the street. |

It's seen here on Long Island all the time. Can't stand it. And it pisses me off even more because those status boards have messages saying it's illegal all the time, and nobody notices it. |

You make a great point. I never mind it when I get cut out and I see a blinking light. I can adjust. But with some d----face just cuts in, it creates a traffic jam, and probably accidents from people who weren't mind-melding with the other cars. Secondly, it helps when you turn the turn signal on BEFORE you switch lanes, not when you're already half into mine. But this is no longer a pet peeve thanks to this new thing where people drive around staring down at their junk while driving or not going on a green. |
