Your OP stays at the top (for now). Whatever has gotten into OTChat has decided that you win the day.

Are you seriously comparing the "election" of Kim Jong-un with a national popular vote?

You are seriously far gone.

There's a reason for the electoral college.

Question (Re: Without the electorial college)

Posted by Mitch45 on Mon Apr 15 10:20:14 2019, in response to Re: Without the electorial college, posted by Spider-Pig on Mon Apr 15 08:04:21 2019.

What if the situation is reversed someday and the GOP candidate wins the popular vote and the Democratic candidate wins the electoral vote. Will you think the Democrat really lost the election, or will you be happy that the Electoral College saved your candidate?

Just curious.

The Democrat would be the winner in that case.

However, given that the most populated areas vote Democrat, where would it be the case that the Republican could win the popular vote? Just curious how you could come to visualize such a scenario.

It's possible, as political parties change and their agendas along with it. We've seen it happen within (some of) our lifetimes.

The NPVIC, once enacted would protect the voice of the people in that case as well. That being said, there would have to have been earth-shattering change in our politics before we see anything like this, but should it become the will of the people, it should stand.

I pray that some day in the near future a Democrat loses the popular vote and wins the electoral vote.

The NPVIC would be enacted the next day.

In 2012 the Electoral College favored Obama. The popular vote just wasn't close enough for it to matter.
