They're smart enough to know what they ran from.I have a feeling Venezuelans would do the same, if we wait long enough for most of the yuckleheads who supported large scale socialism and nationalization of infrastructure to fully realize the error of their ways. |

Asylum is the easiest way "in" to our country through the front door, because the other ways are based on luck, being rich, being highly educated, or being from a country that doesn't have many immigrants coming here. |

That would be luck, essentially.I'm saying that it's easier for an arbitrary family from Latin America with no ties to the country they're immigrating to, to legally live and work somewhere like Australia or New Zealand than it is to do so here. At the same time you cannot deny that both countries have a 100% physical barrier border (albeit naturally) to keep the immigration process civil. |

But the people there can leave at any time back to where they came from (unlike a prison, concentration camp, or Hotel California), and they are there because they violated immigration law. The alternative is what Asian countries do, which is to deport people (and bar re-entry) without any hearing the moment a violation occurs and completely ignore the makeshift ships carrying asylum seekers until they go elsewhere or everyone on them dies. Ironically Australian immigration would have a less bad PR problem if they took a less humane stance on it.My point still stands: The process if you come in through standard channels is far more organized and fair than ours. |
