There are currently 13 Democratic presidential candidates, vs. 17 Republican candidates (including Trump) in 2016.

Why are 13 Democratic candidates "too many", but 17 GOP candidates aren't?

I don't recall any such memes here about the GOP lineup in 2016.

Ok, I see your point now. That wasn't all that difficult to explain was it. I think we should do away with primaries, and go back to nominating the party's candidate in the smoked fill convention halls.

And look what happened in 2016. More candidates makes it more likely someone on the far left is nominated imo. Not necessarily bad unless you happen to be moderate.

Although Democrats have a slightly better primary system, so it’s not as dangerous as it was with the former Republican Party in 2016.

Because for the most part, the R candidates are normal, while the D candidates candidates look like an ensemble from SNL.

If the Dems want a shot (and to insure they get a "normal" candidate without rigging anything), the Dem pool needs to have many crazies as possible, rather than one crazy and many normal candidates.

Same reasoning I used in a different thread: if you have 3 communists and one moderate, the moderate will collect more votes than any one communist. But if you have three moderates and one communist, the communist will win more than any one moderate.
